Fair-minded Europeans who read Bush's speech in London last week will surely adjust their image of him. I was particularly struck by this passage: "Because European countries now resolve differences through negotiation and consensus, there's sometimes an assumption that the entire world functions in the same way. But let us never forget ... beyond Europe's borders, in a world where oppression and violence are very real, liberation is still a moral goal, and freedom and security still need defenders." Every word of that is true. If Europeans continue to hate the man who said them, they diminish not him, but themselves.

I absolutely HAD to write a letter informing the author that it isn't just Europeans who detest Bush. And I don't feel diminished -except by this administrations misdeeds, lies, and corruption.

1. Every word is true.
However I think that actions say more than thousand words - and I dislike Bush because of his actions, not his words.

(Not that his words are paticularly redeeming - one good line doesn't make a good man.)

2. I have problems with words like:
"Bring em on" and "yer either with us or aginst us".

4. They are not his words
Nearly every thought and every word that is delivered by Bush are not his. He speaks the words of others and never knows what he is saying. His actions, as you note, are the true indicator of him.

3. No, Bush lies
the war in Iraq is not to secure freedom, etc. It was to save us from WMD, which Bush knew weren't there. When that lie was exposed, it was then became to secure freedom, etc., which proved not to be true. We do know that upon invading, the first thing the military did was secure the oil fields, and that is still by far their top priority. Halliburton gets everything it wants within hours of asking. But the troops do not have proper body armor seven months after the invasion, and they are dying as a result. There is only one priority in Iraq: oil profits for Halliburton. That is the fact, and the lawless country, in contrast to modern Europe and in model of the Europe of old, is the United States being led by the coup leader Bush.

5. WooT!
"beyond Europe's borders, in a world where oppression and violence are very real, liberation is still a moral goal, and freedom and security still need defenders".

Yep. Start defending liberty and freedom in USA - not the words, you know, but the real stuff, like freedom from poverty and slavery -, and stop USA from oppressing the world and using violence.
