The Holy War We're Totally Not Fighting
By Ashley Spurgeon in Crazy Crap, Politics, Presidential Politics
Tuesday, May. 19 2009 @ 12:24PM

A GQ piece on Donald Rumsfeld has been making the rounds lately and boy is it ever juicy. Long story short: he's an asshole and everyone hates him. The one Bush administration official who didn't want this guy to run across a rabid bear from the get-go was, unsurprisingly, Bush himself ...

Rumsfeld was aware (like we all are) that our last President is a religious man who is wholly incapable of putting his Christianity into context. Rummy carried on and expanded a tradition of handing over classified reports on the Middle East ... covered in Bible quotes. Question: was anyone, anywhere, ever naïve enough to think that Bush was an actual statesman making logical, calculated decisions about the real world? Oh really, like half the country? We are so screwed.

The slideshow must be seen to be believed. The cover pages of the document that was "a daily digest of critical military intelligence so classified that it circulated among only a handful of Pentagon leaders and the president" looked like they were shat from a Kirkland's catalog ...

... Couldn't someone have at least maintained some font consistency?

1. I think the real difference
Is not being able to look and see what is inspiring your thought and action. There are many people that believe they are doing things for religious reasons when they are doing it for there own reasons.

Also you can look and see what untrue situations led people down wrong paths, and try to avoid those paths of irrational fear or interpreted thought. Personally if I see or think of a real problem, and that problem is rooted in real events, not just interpretations of events, you put the resources into solving the problems.

But if a problem or a desire is from a self created fear or self created desire, then you have to be able to admit it can't be said to be from some higher source, since that would be disrespectful to a higher source to claim it is from that. So it depends on the spirit of what is said and the fruits from that source. And what your heart views as good fruits. There are many things I think are from that better spirit of God, that others think are not, and some think things are from God, that I do not. Part of choosing what we believe I guess.

There are some people that believe terrible things are good fruits, or are good things. If a person believes a certain group should be elevated, then bad things that happen to other groups, in there mind, would be good fruits. So which source they are using becomes a reflection of the heart, or more often, an indication of a persons ability to run things by their heart, and not ignore the better things of kindness.

2. I think the story here is (1) the GOP chose Bush in 2000 because they thought he wasn't too bright
and therefore could be easily manipulated; (2) Rumsfeld was an arch-manipulator, who set out to lead the numbskull President around by whatever rings he could stick in his nose; and (3) Rummy thought isolated Bible verses would work in this case
