Good to be king (Stem cell veto / Scaife's rag)

Well, he has finally done it. At long last, President Bush has vetoed a bill. We are not talking about legislation that was bloated with pork or granted some tax break to his oil-rich friends or drove our nation into deeper debt. Bush let all those bills become law.

Instead, the president exercised his one and only veto to kill the hopes of millions of suffering Americans. The bill he vetoed would have allowed far more aggressive stem-cell research. This could have led to cures for heart disease, diabetes, sickle cell, paralysis, Alzheimer's, cancer and other scourges of our times.

"This bill would support the taking of innocent human life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others," the president said. "It crosses a moral boundary that our decent society needs to respect, so I vetoed it."

It is a bewildering explanation coming from this man who claims to understand the willingness of average Americans to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the masses. Especially since, as president, he has not hesitated to call upon others to make that sacrifice ...

1. I Understand...

That Bush believes that the stem cell research bill helps to justify abortion, which he believes is murder. If he really, honestly believes this (which I think he does), I can't fault him for sticking to his core values, no matter how much I may disagree with his decision.
