he intends to retire after the election this year.

...but he said he's planning to stay with the news division (in a lesser capacity) for the next 10 years...

3. He is leaving in early December
The Nightly News will be turned over to Brian Williams (God help us), and Brokaw will stay with NBC News doing special reports.

This will be the first change in the big three networks' Nightly News anchors since 1983.

4. Does it seem that men that went out and got the news are gone?
Now we seem to be getting news readers. May be just me.As I am not sure where the talking heads come from before they turned up on TV.
