Michael Moore Fails to Make Cut with Writers Guild

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Two days after being snubbed when the Oscar nominations were announced, Michael Moore was left off the list Thursday when the Writers Guild of America unveiled nominees for its first documentary writing award for a feature film.

The six nominated pictures are ``The Hunting of the President,'' which alleges a campaign against Bill Clinton from his early days in Arkansas through his impeachment; ``Control Room,'' an inside view of the Arab television network Al Jazeera during the war in Iraq; ``Bright Leaves,'' a reflection on Big Tobacco by the great-grandson of a tobacco baron; ``Home of the Brave,'' a study of murdered civil-rights activist Viola Liuzzo; ``In the Realm of the Unreal,'' which follows artist, novelist and janitor Henry Darger; and ``Super Size Me,'' a first-person take on the perils of overeating fast food.

Of those films, only Morgan Spurlock's ``Super Size Me'' has been nominated for a best documentary Academy Award.

WGA officials said Moore's ``Fahrenheit 9/11'' was eligible but Moore elected not to submit it. <snip>

NOT THAT THIS MEDIA REPORT HEADLINE AND STRUCTURE IS BIASED OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT .....

:-(

1. If Moore chose not to submit it,
then what's the point of this story? Shouldn't the headline have been simply, "Writer's Guild Announces Documentary Nominees"? If they wanted to say anything about Moore having kept F9/11 out of contention, they could have done so in the story itself. That headline is blatently false.

2. F-9/11 was a Documentary
It would have been a joke if it had been considered for an Oscar. For Christs sake, the Reich Wingers should be the ones that are snubbed, their "Passion" didn't make the cut and it was a true drama movie.
So the fucking joke is on them.

The neo-cons have a bigger hard on for Moore than they do the Clintons. Too bad they don't spend some of their energy on constructive work.

3. Watch "Control Room", Al Jazeera and Iraq war, very good
I would recommend this movie both for those of us who like Al Jazeera and hate the Iraq invasion, and for those who have opposite views. (Especially those who won't watch MM9/11). Build it up for them-"hey, here's a documentary about that nasty aljazeera, you heard of them, they spread propaganda!"

It shows Iraq footage behind the reporters reporting, more than was shown on tv. Al Jazeera comes over as trying to show the news as it is, a balance to FOX (everyone has a bias, trying to give the other side).
