Overall radio ratings look great for KLSD-San Diego (AAR affiliate)

http://ltradio.blogspot.com/2004/10/ratings-roundup-klsd-explodes-in-san.html

Day two of the Arbitron summer ratings book release shows a couple ratings successes for Air America affiliates.

KLSD has made a huge splash in the book by jumping a whole share in the overall ratings. It should be noted that the talk format has only been in place for the last month of the ratings period, but considering the previous adult standards format has been getting consistent mediocre ratings for the past year, the suddent jump must be due to the new format. This is big news, considering that San Diego has long been considered a fairly conservative market. KLSD is now the #3 AM station in San Diego! Perhaps this will influence station owner Clear Channel to decide if they want to put it on an LA signal, as has been rumored.

In Philadelphia, nothing spectacular with WHAT, which added AAR programming around the same time as KLSD. But ratings did double. The ratings are still not great, but WHAT is a weak signal, and I'm not sure what kind of promotion they're doing for it. This may not be any kind of ratings success, but stay tuned.

You can go to the usual trade industry sites (like rronline.com) for exact overall numbers, which I'm not allowed to publish here. If I hear of demographic breakdowns, I'll let you know.

1. Randi Rhodes said KLSD now is NUMBER ONE!

Highest market share in "conservative" San Diego.

Well, how people can still be saying that a city with more registered Dems than pukes is conservative is beyond me--guess they're the people standing on line for flu shots saying we have the best health care system in the world.

Somehow, even renaming KPOP to KLSD, didn't seem to curb the enthusiasm of people longing for anything but pukes on the air.

2. I can't wait to see the demographic breakdowns

It's not the #1 station in town (overall, it's #17). But they could be top five in a demographic or two. Her show could be highly rated, but we shall see.

Overall, they are the #3 AM station in town.

3. You're right, it is Randi's show, not the station overall.

Of course when you're the ONLY liberal voice opposing dozens of dittoheads, it isn't hard to get ratings, because they split their vote, while you get all of yours.

That's why I think Donna Frye, the write-in candidate for Mayor, has a good chance, because the two candidates whose names are printed on the ballot will split their vote, and Donna will get everyone who cares.

4. Maybe KLSD will get even better now
KLSD still cuts out to a financial show 6-9, then has some worthless guy on 9-midnight. Plus, they carry only 3 hrs of Randi per day. Maybe the quick success will persuade them to can the incongruous programming and carry AAR 24/7 now.

5. I wonder if the financial show is a contractual obligation
I do know that they shuffled it over from a sister station, along with the morning guy. Does kinda stand out like a sore thumb, doesn't it?

As for 9-MID, that's Lionel. A weird guy, but he has his moments. Also has kind of a cult following. And he's a lefty. He's on a few CC-owned liberal talkers.

6. Great news, have been wondering how
they're doing here. Question: does 'day two' just mean that some other numbers were released yesterday, or something else?

Hopefully Stacey's show and the first hour of Franken are taking a big bite out of Lil' Ricky Robot.
