Kucinich calls for new New Deal

By Todd Dorman

OTTUMWA, Iowa — Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich said Sunday he would use New Deal-style programs to kick-start the U.S. economy while also slashing defense spending to pay for universal day care.

“This election is really about, and should be about, deep, fundamental change,” said Kucinich, a congressman from Ohio, during the latest in a series of “Hear it from the Heartland” forums sponsored by U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa.

“As you can tell ... I’m not talking about trimming around the edges, oh no,” he said, arguing that his campaign’s hopes hinge on his ability to draw sharp contrasts with President Bush’s agenda.

6. Thanks-great site, great words, the candidate is
really getting into the heart of "deep, fundamental change", and into addressing issues that have needed addressing for many years now and the New Deal message is great since it points back to FDR. The rightwing corporate bosses (decendants of those in the so-called "Liberty League",and other rightwing organizations) continue to try to destroy everything FDR did for the people so the people can finally fight back through this candidate!

I went out to protest yesterday and the day before to support the efforts of the 3 Nuns who acted to warn us all of the dangerous Weapons of Mass Destruction here in Colorado (49 missile silos). Many of the peace and justice people who came out on those days were handing out literature from Dennis Kucinich's campaign.

4. This is a man who can win
Our greatest leaders were called "unelectable" and they proved that the "unelectable" always make the best presidents. Yesterday, there was a list in a comic series that included Thomas Jeffereson (who didn't consider himself much of a speaker), Abraham Lincoln (who had just been soundly beaten by the same man he was running against on the same issues two years before), FDR (who couldn't walk), Truman (whom it was believed had no chance at all), JFK (who was a Catholic when America was afraid of electing Caltholic and who had Hodgkin's}.

7. JFK had Addison's Disease
I also have this malady. He showed a great deal more energy than I can imagine his being able to have as an Addisonian. Great effort...

8. heh...DK has ALWAYS promoted these programs
and how best to make them work. The man believes STRONGLY in social justice....this is NOT campaign rhetoric where his team goes to DU to learn how to play up to the internet activists. Dennis' whole LIFE was dedicated to social justice.
