Transcript: Terry blasts Ed on MTP
Mr. Gillespie:The kind of words were hearing now from the Democratic candidates go beyond political debate. This is political hate speech. And I think that the American people will reject that approach. They appreciate the presidents strong and principled leadership and the fact that he has a positive agenda, and they have, frankly, nothing but negativity and pessimism and protest to offer.
MR. RUSSERT: Despite the decline...
MR. McAULIFFE: Clearly, Tim, Ive got to argue with that for a minute. Its laughable to think that the Republican Party can call the Democratic Party negative. You know, I remind you that this is the party of Tom DeLay. I remind you that, you know, several years ago when George Bushs father was running for office, hes the one that ran the Willie Horton ad. I remind you that four years ago when this President Bush was running against John McCain, a war hero, in South Carolina, the Bush campaign went out and attacked John McCain, they attacked his wife, they attacked his children, they attacked his mental sanity, they attacked his patriotism.
MR. GILLESPIE: Tim. Wait a second, Tim. Tim...
MR. McAULIFFE: Wait a minute. And Max Cleland ran for the United States Senate10 months ago Max Cleland...
MR. GILLESPIE: Thats patently false.
MR. McAULIFFE: ...a triple amputee who left three limbs on the battlefield of Vietnam, they had the audacity to call Max Cleland unpatriotic.
MR. GILLESPIE: Tim, let me say something. Im sorry, what I just said is factually accurate.
MR. McAULIFFE: We have 27 positive speeches on the ground against one against George Bush.
MR. GILLESPIE: What Terry is saying right now is factually inaccurate. The quotes I just cited I have chapter and verse for, and anybody who tuned into the debate saw them. Terry McAuliffe cannot find one instance where this president in his campaign said anything about John McCains mental health or his wifes.
MR. McAULIFFE: His campaign did. I disagree. Absolutely. Ill get it for you.
MR. GILLESPIE: He cant find oneno, youre wrong. Terry, I was on his campaign, and that is flat-out wrong.
MR. McAULIFFE: Ill get you the details.
MR. GILLESPIE: Yeah, you do that, and you make them public because youre wrong.
MR. McAULIFFE: And let me tell you right now...
MR. RUSSERT: Let me go back to the issue...
MR. McAULIFFE: ...guess how many positive speeches our Democratic candidates have given to date?
MR. RUSSERT: Let me go back to the issue...
MR. McAULIFFE: Twenty-seven.
MR. RUSSERT: Let me go back to the issue of...
MR. McAULIFFE: How many has George Bush given at this time? One.

4. This is well done.
Stick to the record. I won't work short term. Not unless you have a computer in your brain. But it dose in the long run as the lies become more and more apperint with each interview. Forcing Russert to try and change the subject was a major victory here. Keep this up, and their will be more vicotries to come.

Plus, its good to see McaAuliffe still out their. Not being in office, dosn't mean you leave your voice at the door. She needs to speak out more, and take the frunt line. And it looks like she knows this.

6. Um Terry is a guy... not a girl and he never held office
He is DNC chairman now, the first 'office' he's held. He is Clinton's man and he gives Clinton control of the Dem party. You have to assume that the DNC push for Davis is because Clinton told them too as is the first primary being held in NM for Richardson as is the promoting of Clark, so that there's some more military brass in the party. Gore lays down the moral argumants once or twice a year while Clinton runs the inside political game. Each are doing what they do best and that's why we are going to win. You better belive Clinton and Gore will be out there everydy to stump for this Dem nominee.

7. Did anyone else notice
how McAulliff going out of his way to plug AL GORE it kind of raised my eyebrows.Maybe he knows something we don't.Gore has been pretty quiet of late, reckon he may be ready to make a little noise.McAulliff was definitely going out of his way to credit Clinton and Gore it makes me wonder.

8. I think he was just drawing attention
to the Clinton admin, back when people had an economy and jobs.

The Republicans are going to hit hard with "Democrats want to RAISE YOUR TAXES". The comeback will be "a return to Clinton-era fiscal policies."

9. It got my attention
he was definitely tagging Gore with the good old days.It just seems to me that tagging it with Clinton would be enough. If Gore's not running why put it out there?Seems to me give the credit to Clinton and talk up the candidates that are running.I've rarely ever heard the V.P. getting bragged up unless they were running.John Kennedy worked hard and made improvements on civil rights. You rarely or never hear John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson made improvements on civil rights.

10. interesting
I didn't see the emphasis on Gore though. For Gore to come in at this stage would be a major misstep.
