Holy Crap! Dean gets a crowd of 1200 in Walpole, NH!
This is HUGE. I have been to Walpole and it's a very small town. And the event was up a dirt road, no less! A 12 year old girl convinced her parents to contribute their Bush tax check to Dean's campaign...$400. How precious is THAT?

Seriously, people...I can't even begin to say how mind boggling that kind of crowd is in Walpole. Heck, there are only 3,594 residents of Walpole!

This is a local paper, so you won't likely see this anywhere else.

4. You're welcome
I didn't even see this on the Dean blog, and I'm surprised because of the crowd. And what a sweet story about that 12 year old girl getting her parents to contribute so much. That's just adorable!

8. look at a map
Walpole is right on the Vermont-New Hampshire border. Walpole is in Cheshire County, the most Dean-friendly part of the entire state of NH. Yes, it's a huge crowd, but then again, I wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that 50% or more of it was Vermonters.

10. maybe so
but what other candidates have been getting anything like the crowds Dean gets? 15,000 in Seattle, 10,000 in Bryant Park in NYC, 3500 in San Antonial, 5,000 in Portland?? this early in the race--they can't all be from Vermont.

14. Oh, a lot were people from Vermont
But there are no big towns right there. The nearest big town is Keene, NH. People had to go out of their way to go see him...and in VERY large numbers for this area.

15. Excellent find
Also wanted to remind people:

C-Span will air 90 minutes of Sleepless Summer Tour footage on the "Road to the White House" program on Sunday at 6:30 and 9:30 pm ET.

I can't wait to see more of the tour. I hope they do something like it again, because it was obviously a HUGE hit.

16. It's one of my local papers
And that one, The Rutland Herald, along with the Argus Times have good online sites with a lot of local stories on them. The Valley News also has a website, but they don't put many articles on it.

17. It is well know
That Dean's campaign people load the towns with people from outside for EVERY Dean event. This happened in Iowa when they did a mock election and Dean won (as expected) by massive numbers. Turned out that there were more Dean supporters in the town then the entire town population. A Dean campaign is like a Grateful Dead concert, with people following him all over to show up. There were well over 200 Dean supporters who followed him to a town with a population of 192.

28. Link?
Pardon me if I don't take your word for it.

"It is well know" That Dean's campaign people load the towns with people from outside for EVERY Dean event.

The more likely reason is that he is very popular. Occam's Razor.

18. P.S.
When I publish anti GOVERNOR DEAN stuff from the Rutland Herald, it has been vociferously attacked as a GOP rag and Rovian Tool.
I hopew this now means Dean supporters accept the paper as a legitimate and balanced journalistic source.

19. P.S.
Woodstock, Vt.: Will those who claim that Howard Dean is a liberal ever examine his 10-year record as Governor here in Vermont?

Or will the liberal label stick simply because it is being shouted over and over?

Gwen Ifill: It's beginning to look like there is going to be a lot of additional examination of Howard Dean in the coming weeks and months. Have no fear.

23. Sorry. even the articles about that Iowa Mock election
Place HUNDREDS of Dean supporters from all over the country, "assisting" bagging food at food co-ops in the county where the election was held on the DAY the election was held

IOWA CITY -- If the presidential election were held today, President Bush would win a second term.
At least that's what the results say from the Johnson County Auditor mock election held July 21 through Thursday at the Johnson County Fair.

Here are the Johnson County Fair Mock Presidential Election results:

Democrats: 432
Howard Dean: 191

Sen. John Kerry: 62

Rep. Dennis Kucinich: 38

Rep. Dick Gephardt: 33

Sen. John Edwards: 25

Sen. Joe Lieberman: 18

Carol Moseley Braun: 14

Sen. Bob Graham: 10

The Rev. Al Sharpton: 6

Uncommitted Democrat: 35

http://www.gazetteonline.com/iowacaucus/news/news76.aspx

The vote was not retricted to residents of the state...anyone was allowed to vote in it.

And its odd that the city it was held in has a population of 192.

Then on the very same thursday in the Very same county:

Johnson County people have responded with their time and their treasure. The number of regular volunteers has more than doubled. Those living at the margins have found encouragement and shelter from the sometimes-unforgiving world.

On a Thursday morning in July -- before heading to meet undecided voters in Keokuk County, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa -- Howard Dean joined his volunteers filling bags of groceries at the Johnson County Food Bank.

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/07/28/column.shields.opinion.dean/

Dean loads an area that is going to be doing such mocl elections and straw polls with his own campaign staff.

Same crap pulled during the Wisconsin Straw Polls, winning the pll because he agreed to not take part in it, but then had his people show up at the poll in order to create the appearances agains, theat he has mass support.

SO far all that Dean proves is that he can get people to travel around the country to bump up his image.

"SO far all that Dean proves is that he can get people to travel around the country to bump up his image."

Sorry, but this was funny, the thought that the huge crowds Dean is attracting are just some group of people he's dragging around with him from place to place. They must be really tired.

25. There were well over 200
Dean campaign supporters at the Iowa mock election...

Dean got 191 votes. Yes, Dean simply moves his campaingn machine members in each state to the various communities where planned events are occurrring, and then they vote for him. Giving a simply false indication of the support Dean has with the residents of the area.

26. I know you suck at methods....
but if he had 200 volunteers at the mock election, how come he got 191 votes? The law of probability suggests that he should have gotten at least 225...

You really should think of changing you name to Turdinthepunchbowl...

You are really gonna go psycho if he wins the nomination....I suggest a pre-visit to your doctor to get your meds straitened out....

29. It's well known that Dean keeps speaking in front of the same
10,000 people. He has to lease 33 737's to ferry them around. It's really quite costly.
