LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean, who will attend an Ypsilanti fund-raiser Saturday, said Wednesday he has named a state campaign coordinator for Michigan.

Daren Berringer, 34, is a longtime field organizer who helped incumbent Democratic Rep. Tim Holden of Pennsylvania beat an incumbent Republican in one of the nation's most contested congressional races in 2002.

"We think we can do well in Michigan," Dean said Wednesday morning in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. "We're going to spend a lot of time in Michigan."

2. The gun thing should help in Michigan
Seems to be a popular subject in thoses parts. At least with the folks I've met from Michigan. Lots of hunters.

3. I don't think it helps
but I do think Dean has neutralized it. I do believe being perceived as 'anti-gun' will cost you more votes than being perceived as 'pro-gun' overall. While the NRA gave him an A rating, I doubt the NRA actually supports Dean for President. The opposition just can't use the issue against him.
