Am I the only one who thinks Chris Van Hollen is incompetent?
A couple of weeks ago Ed Schultz coaxed Tarryl Clark to admit that the DCCC hadn't given her any money. Isn't that unbelievable?!?. She tried to take the high road but she finally had to admit it. A co-worker and I were talking about it and he said that Van Hollen is probably going to give cash only to Democratic incumbents with safe seats. Now there's a bold strategy!

This guy goes on MSNBC with his nice smile and tells us everything is going to be OK. Guess what, it's not. At least not the way things are going.

1. Was Rahm incompetent? What explained his funding choices?

Likely the same criteria: the centrists get the cash, even if they're the weaker candidates. There's a method to the "incompetence." It's ideology.

2. Good morning
First, thanks for responding. I understand what you're saying, but shouldn't the approach be different when we have the majority? Whatever the criticisms of Rahm he and Dean helped take back Congress in 2006. I just think Van Hollen has to take some risks here. I know a lot of us are angry at the conservadems. I am too. But I agree with Biden that the choices are so stark, the differences with the right so pronounced that we have to retain as many seats as possible. For me, if those seats are centrist Dems it beats the alternative by a long shot.

I remember defending Rahm back in '06 on exactly the same grounds that gaining a majority is more important than message. But, a party in power doesn't stay there unless they have a coherent vision that sets them apart from the opposition, and enough party discipline to move in that direction. The GOP have shown they understand that. As a result, they have a base that's intact and highly-motivated.

It's a different way of doing things, and it works. Triangulation has failed. Let's go back to two (very different) parties. If the centrists can't deal with that, THEY should create a Third Party in the middle. Here's the ticket: McCain-Lieberman-Graham (2012)
