Bond has financial edge over Farmer
By Jo Mannies
Post-Dispatch Political Correspondent
01/27/2004

Sen. Christopher "Kit" Bond, R-Mo., and his top Democratic rival, state Treasurer Nancy Farmer, both raised a lot of money in the fall - but not enough to erase the senator's huge financial edge.

In campaign finance reports due at the end of this week, Bond reported almost $4.32 million in the bank. That's more than seven times Farmer's cash-on-hand total of $609,448.

Her campaign staff notes that's a better ratio than in the fall, when Bond held a 10-to-1 edge.

Both campaigns provided the Post-Dispatch with advance copies of their reports' summary pages. Their cash-on-hand figures are important because candidates are amassing as much money as they can now to pay for ads this fall. The general election is Nov. 2.

1. I really hope that Farmer pulls this off
It's not impossible (Missouri elections are always close). With a tough presidential and gubernatorial race this year, hopefully Nancy will be able to become Sen. Nancy Farmer.

3. MO elections
I also hope Farmer can pull it out. Although I think Gephardt would be a strong candidate for the seat, I don't think he's interested.

I just read that the KC Star is reporting that McCaskill is leading Holden in the primary race for governor (by 2 points with 45% undecided)

I'm guessing most of the undecideds will go to the sitting governor, but I know very little about McCaskill. How does she compare to Holden?

4. Gephardt should be interested.
That's my concern. These Democrats are more concerned with their personal comfort than in serving their country it seems at times. His electability is a burden on him--it's a responsibility.
