1. I quit Sept, 29, 2000. The first week was the worst, but it gets easier.
you can do it. Just think, soon the eternal cough you have will disappear, you wont catch cold so easily and you will SMELL BETTER!

I smoked an average of a pack a day (up to 4 packs a day at one point) for 27 years and quit cold turkey. I never thought i could do it that way. If i can, so can you

3. Do you still think about it?
That's what gets me. Even if I'm not craving, I'm thinking about it.

5. It will pass
believe it.

I never think about it anymore and I recall there were times--like after eating, or with a drink, that smoking was just part of the experience. That was hardest--the smoking routines.

4. Took me a long time to finally kick
I used the "one day at a time" approach. Before you know it, it is behind you.

11. Congratulations!
Love it when people report to have quit smoking. I quit 26 years ago and know very well how difficult it is to stay away from smoking. But you have done the hardest part and from my experience, when I no longer identified myself as a "smoker" (who was temporarily denying myself precious cigarettes), the battle was just about won.

You can stick with it. One of the reasons I was able to "stay quit" was the fact that I never wanted to go through the quitting stage again and I definitely did not want to smoke for the rest of my life.

Good luck to you and again, congrats. Give yourself a pat on the back for me!:bounce:

14. Hey, Hep, I'm on Day Three Myself
but I'm cheating by using the patch. And before anyone gives me shit about that IT'S THE ONLY WAY I HAVE HALF A CHANCE! (Ahem. Sorry.) If I'm not mistaken, homicide is still a crime in this state so there's NO WAY I could do this cold turkey.

But I'm finding that I also can't drink coffee or drink alcohol because both make me want to smoke REALLY bad. Quitting alcohol is no biggie but coffee . . . ARRRRGGHHHHH!!!!! Water. Lots and lots of water.

Maybe we can work as a support system for each other.

17. Sorry...
It is a wonderful testiment to one's self will in quitting smoking. Good for you!

(I do feel I should add something political, though: Brad Carson for U.S. Senate in Oklahoma!)
