Poll question: How much money will it take for CMB to switch endorsements?
Edited on Sat Jan-17-04 03:50 PM by Feanorcurufinwe
during Sunday's debate in Iowa, when Braun defended Dean after he was attacked by Al Sharpton for his lack of minority hirings while Vermont governor, Braun was already crafting her exit strategy with Dean.

By early this week, Ireland was in negotiations with Haber on the details of Braun's departure. Braun's issues: She has a big campaign debt, and the trickle of money she was getting would dry up once she quit the contest. Braun also wanted an understanding on what role she would play with the Dean team. Ireland and Haber sealed the deal Wednesday evening.

"We are going to help her with the debt," Haber told me. The debt tab could be in the neighborhood of some $300,000 and Dean's camp will help Braun raise the money to pay it off.

Braun will campaign for Dean three days of the week, with the Dean campaign picking up her travel expenses. Braun will become a Dean campaign consultant and will be paid about $20,000.

There's an old saying that an honest politician is one that stays bought. Will Carol Mosely Braun stay bought? Or would a bigger offer from another candidate get her to switch endorsements?

5. Shame on you
That is a disgusting allegation.

If you cannot come up with some proof that CMB's endorsement was "bought," the moderators have an obligation to lock this thread.

7. CMB is a public figure and not a candidate for the Democratic nomination

A few days ago, I respected her. Today, I don't.

This is a poll, and if you don't believe CMB sold out for money, there is a response that indicates that, if you so choose.

I guess I mistakenly assumed everyone had heard of this already.

10. Unless you can come up with some PROOF that CMB shopped ...
What I read in this article is that the Dean team will "help" CMB "raise the money to pay it off."

CMB will also be HIRED to work for a salary - and not a very large salary at that.

There is nothing unique about those arrangements.

Unless you can come up with some PROOF that CMB shopped around among the other candidates to see who would give her "a bigger offer," her endorsement was neither unethical nor "bought."

11. You're entitled to your opinion
that's what the last option: "0, Dean and CMB are both honest and it's only a coincidence that she's endorsing him and he's paying her $20,000" is for.

12. This question and poll is full of *&?>.
I see nothing wrong with Dean paying Braun as a consultant and think it's wrong to make it seem corrupt/dirty, that Braun has decided to work for Dean. I think Braun endorsed Dean because she probably liked he better than the other candidates, not because he had the most money and she thought she could get some.

Please give me a break.
