Former Senator won't run for House seat
Former U.S. Sen. Larry Pressler says he will no longer be available for selection as the Republican nominee for the June 1 special election to fill Rep. Bill Janklow's seat.

The State Republican Central Committee will meet Jan. 23-24 in Sioux Falls to choose a nominee to fill out the seven months remaining on Janklow's two-year term in the U.S. House.

"A couple of people spent money on a poll that looks good, but the time for me is not right now," he said. "I am busier than I have ever been."

Pressler had said that if nominated, he would be willing to serve, but he never officially announced his candidacy.

1. Without Pressler in this race
I've heard that For. State Senator Barb Everist will be the Republican nominee for the House. I really hope that Stephanie Herseth wins this seat.

2. Easy thing with Republicans
The way to prevent their top guns from running is just offer them more money in the private sector. That's what they really care about anyway. While the rank and file are maniacal, the leaders are usually businessmen who have no real passion about their cause or Party. If they see an easier job in the private sector that pays more (ie: Racicot), they'll gladly let their party lose a big election and take the cushy job.
