Call the Aladdin Casino/Hotel to complain about how Linda Ronstadt was
treated for her political beliefs. She was kicked out of her room and her contract terminated because she had the audacity *gasp* to state that Michael Moore was a hero during one of her performances.

I called and told them that I ordinarily try a new casino each trip to Vegas, but will NEVER try the Aladdin because of the stand they made.

We need to support these brave people like Ronstadt and Whoopi when they simply state the truth and are harmed professionally as a result.

The Aladdin's number is:
Reserve by Phone: 1 - 8 8 8 - 6 5 5 - 1 7 7 9

Have fun!

3. don't worry..........
if kerry wins (god willing), free speech will be back in spades! remember how they savaged the clintons? calling him a murderer, saying that he fathered an illegitimate black kid, and that hillary had vince foster whacked, and on...and on....and on.......

but i don't remember democrats trying to step all over their rights to free speech. hell, if it weren't for clinton, i don't think anyone would ever have heard of nuts like ann coulter & sean hannity. people like this owe their careers to the big dog. these people are just much better organized than we are when it comes to letter writing campaigns, etc.

10. This is not about freedom of speech
Ronstadt did say what she wanted to, and those conservative morons also had the freedom to boo her for what she said. Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence. The problem lie with the fact that rightwingers are more pushy and aggressive when it come to intimidation and boycotts. To counter their tactics, we also have to be aggressive and intimidating, so these corporations would not dare to choose a side. When rightwingers' letters pour into a place of business, we have to make sure that our side is heard too. When a corporation decides to fire someone for their political view, we have to counter that by having our own boycott. I know this is very difficult, and I also hate infantile games like these, but this is the one way for us to counter the rightwingers increasing audacity and aggressiveness.

11. So right, I hear you on the free speech issue. In our local town,
the right wingers have staged boycotts against our independent book store owners who spoke out against the war, and now threatened a boycott against our locally owned theatre if they dare to show F/911. It feels awfull but boycotting the coorporations who sponsor Hannity, Limbaugh and Coulter may be an action.

8. Work like heck to get them a better deal, fly it by them, and if they
agree cancel the reservations at the Aladdin. Then tell them why and that you will make sure to book your clients into other facilities in the future.

7. This makes me sick
It also makes me sad, because the first concert I ever went to was at the old Aladdin. (Boz Scaggs, summer of '77. Whee.) Way to harsh a good memory, you corporate gaming bastards.

I wonder who will be playing there over the next few months - perhaps they can be encouraged to move their gigs to a friendlier stage.

9. I am planning my wedding in Vegas, and now I am certain
Aladdin is off my list. I emailed their reservation desk, but I think I'll call them too just for the hell of it. When conservative idiots go on boycott rampage (anything from ice cream to ketchup), they all look like a bunch of loosers to me. However, they seem to be effective loosers, so if they want to play this game, then we can play against them. When calling Aladdin, please be sarcastic (thankyou for making my decision easier when choosing hotels in Vegas, because now I am certain I will not spend a dime at Aladdin). Furthermore, be pratical by stating that when a place of business is faced with political decisions, it is best to not pick a side. By joining companies like Disney and Slimfast, you'll undoubtably piss off one side and have to suffer the consequence of boycott.

12. Just a suggestion for your wedding plans
My wife and I got married in Vegas two years ago. We didn't want to get married in a chapel, but rather in our hotel room.

We decided to stay at the Venetian. The standard sized suite was $150 per night. When I told the check in clerk that we were there to get married, she upgraded our suite free of charge to a luxury suite. To this day we jokingly refer to our suite as the Palace at Versailles. It was huge. 1900 square feet, a dining room for 8, full living room with big screen TV, Jacuzzi, Sauna and exercise room. I have never experienced anything like that in my life.

I will always recommend the Venetian for anyone considering getting married in Vegas. A beautiful place and very nice staff.

Good luck in your upcoming nuptials!!

13. My own fear and loathing or what to do with a prepaid trip..
Wouldn't you know, I just made the non-refundable reservation deposit last Thursday so now what?

Anyone have any suggestions for guest activism next month when we visit with the fine folks at the Aladdin?

14. I Get the Same Thing
My latest album has several tracks that are pointed against this administration. Many songs just provoke thought and a little laughter.

But, some of the ignorant people on the right are slamming my website with viscious emails.

It's okay. Takes alot more than that to shake me up.

Takes even more than that to make me shut up.

I won't.

David Ippolito (Go ahead - Google me.)

See you in New York City.

15. Just an updated about the Aladdin and their new owners
First, the Aladdin was recently sold sometime before the Ronstandt concert to the Planet Hollywood Folks, but that sales has not gone through yet. Aladdin has been in a state of bankerupcy and the current owners wanted to unload the place.

Now, why we should bother with the call - simple: New owners have not only invited Linda back to sing but I've heard they've taken Michael Moore up on his offer of joining her there.
