Tuesday, Feb 3, 2004, Hannah Pingree's bill for a voter-verified paper trail will have a hearing before the Legal and Veterans Affairs Committee in Room 436 at the State House in Augusta (The committee room is in the corner of the third floor of the State House). The hearing was postponed last week after the committee was presented with the Secretary of State's proposed amendment, which was unacceptable.
People in Maine are working on revising the language to fix some of the problems that have cropped up. They are going to try to work with a disability issues expert who is familiar with State House workings. They plan to have a workable amendment to present to the committee on Tuesday.
PLEASE GO TO THE HEARING. This hearing is worth taking a day off work and traveling in rain, sleet, or snow!! Ms. Pingree and the others are working for the safety of your election process in Maine, and now they need your support at the hearing. This is a critical juncture. Please gather up your friends and go to Augusta on Tuesday. Unfortunately the clerk has not yet supplied us with the exact time, but we believe it will be between 1:00 and 3:00 pm.
To confirm the time, keep an eye on this page

PLEASE CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES: Here is the list of Legal and Veterans Affairs committee members with links to their home pages. If any of you have any connections or are constituents, a few phone calls or emails at this stage are worth their weight in gold - even phone calls over the weekend for this important bill.
