More than 6,000 register for Gov. Perry's prayer rally
By Kate Shellnutt, Houston Chronicle
Published 03:41 p.m., Thursday, July 14, 2011

... Other atheist groups have announced plans to protest outside Reliant Stadium the day of the event (along with America's most infamous protesters, Westboro Baptist), but most of the counter-demonstrations have been planned for the day before.

Some Texas churches-including congregations belonging to the United Church of Christ, Metropolitan Community Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Unitarian Universalist Church and other affirming denominations-have voiced their opposition to Perry's sponsor, the American Family Association, a group known for its positions against homosexuality.

The American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for the Separation of Church and State are putting on an event called Faith, Family and Freedom, which will bring these churches together with atheist, Jewish, Muslim and Asian groups.

"We don't want to make this about Perry. We are not against prayer in any shape or form. We just think we can work together on real-world solutions on these issues," said Lissa Squiers, one of the organizers. They will hold a press conference at Reliant and a community event at a local church on the day before Perry's big rally ...

2. Just curious
Would you say the same thing if 6000 muslims were gathered together to pray?

5. It been 5 years since I moved from my native Texas
The population then was 19M and growing. Lets say 20M by now.
So that means about 19,004,000 Texas aren't going.

If it were all that popular they would have had it as the Cowboys new stadium. and parking lot.
