Tell the FCC that the Parents Television Council doesn't speak for you
Earlier today, the Parents Television Council sent an alert to its subscribers asking them to complain once more to the FCC.

During a Live 8 concert, ABC unintentionally aired an F-bomb.

The PTC is asking the FCC to impose its maximum indecency fines on the ABC network and each of its 230 affiliates. That adds up to over $7 million.

Is one F-word worth $7 million?

Don't let the PTC turn the FCC into our nation's censorship board.

Tell the FCC that the PTC doesn't speak for you.

Send a letter from SpeakSpeak.org.

3. Done. Here's my letter
Why is it that the un-intentional airing of "The F-Word" is worthy of a larger fine than the negligent release of radioactive material?

During the hours and hours of this live broadcast, a single obscenity slipped through.

Big F-Wording deal!

It is reprehensible that a bunch of outraged Pharisees place hysterical pettiness ahead of the worthy goal of saving the lives of the starving people in Africa.

Would you like to tell a village in Africa that they have to go hungry because a bunch of whining ninnies had their sensibilities offended by a "dirty word."

Further, in the past, the FCC has ruled that the F-word is not indecent unless it refers to sexual activity. In this case, "Who the f--- are you?" clearly has nothing to do with a sexual act.

Don't these people have something better they could do with their time? Like feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, or perhaps spending more time with the children they're supposedly so worried about?

Please deny the indecency complaints filed in regards to this matter, and do not take action against ABC or its affiliates.

5. I heard the same word on the Fox Sports Network Baseball telecast.
They had mics on the ump and the word was yelled clear as day by the catcher. Where's the PTC on this?

6. Bozell is scum.
Never mind that it was a worldwide concert to help raise poverty awareness, someone said the "F-word" on live TV. The nerve!!!! :sarcasm:

7. Censorship is completely stupid...
I think the days of gasping, oohing and aaaaaaahhhing over words is over. The PTC is an anachronism, and basically represents the social policies of conservatives. Cussing is just like drugs: It is great if you don't do it, okay if you do a little bit, and bad if you get addicted to it or use it in the wrong place at the wrong time. In addition, cussing can also get rid of a lot of pent up anger (for example, whenever I hear about something bad that the Rethugs did, I just say "Fuck Bush" a few times, or rant "Karl Rove is a complete Shitbag" a few times, and I feel less angry.)

In addition, censorship probably prevents gruesome pictures of violence, gore, and maiming to be shown on TV, direct results of the Iraq war. The PTC probably supports all this smart bomb shit on TV and making a big deal over Janet's breasts instead of showing real issues of parents and children: a gruesome war resulting in needless deaths, excruciating pain, and sheer misery for millions of Iraqis and thousands of US Soldiers.

As a sidenote, not all Democrats are against censorship. Gore supported enforcing laws to prevent children of certain ages from buying rap CDs or gory video games, to the point that Playstation Magazine (I have that issue of theirs, October 2000) said to vote for Bush if you want to have the right to buy / view objectionable materials.

8. This just makes me laugh...
it was OK for Glenn Beck to discuss killing Michael Moore on the air, but this is something that we wouldn't want our children to hear. We are now in Oz.

10. Jeez - the PTC's descriptions of the programs they consider "bad" are
worse than the programs themselves!
