The Wal-Mart Movie update
A couple weeks back I posted some information about the Wal-Mart Movie (in production) and a couple requests for information related to closed Wal-Marts. See...

The response to the post was great, and many of you sent additional information to BraveNewFilms.org.

Now the producers are seeking additional information, photos, video, etc, as well as other ways of assisting.

Here is the update from Jim Gilliam, producer, Brave New Films.

=========

Hello field producers!

It's been a little while since I've given you an update. We've all been quite busy. You've sent in some great photos of abandoned Wal-marts - http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=23315595&url_num=1&url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/walmartmovie/tags/abandoned/, and we're growing like crazy.. over 400 field producers already, and 1400 screenings are in the works for November!

Jesse (the Brave New Films web guy), and I have set up a few new things to help get us organized. First off, is the Field Producer Action Center... this will be the center for all of our activities:

http://www.bravenewfilms.org/producers/

There you can find all the latest things to do, with all the details. In addition to the abandoned Wal-marts, there are opportunities for
getting footage of communities resisting Wal-Mart -http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=23315595&url_num=4&url=http://www.bravenewfilms.org/producers/2005/06/community_resistance_video_and_photos.php,
google bombing - http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=23315595&url_num=5&url=http://www.bravenewfilms.org/producers/2005/06/google_bomb.php,
flyer handouts - http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=23315595&url_num=6&url=http://www.bravenewfilms.org/producers/2005/06/walmart_movie_handouts.php, and
brainstorming 4th of July outreach opportunities - http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key=23315595&url_num=7&url=http://www.bravenewfilms.org/producers/2005/06/fourth_of_july_outreach_opportunities.php
And it's simple now to leave comments on each action and let people know what you're doing, meet others, discuss ideas, etc.

<snip>

And finally.. We now have five different teams.. the idea being to ultimately keep the actions you receive limited to the areas you are interested in:

-Production Team (videography, photography, etc.)
-Post-Production Team (editing, sound, music, graphics, etc.)
-Street Team (screenings, outreach, flyers, posters)
-Web Team (outreach on blogs, forums, search engines)
-Research Team (research, fact checking, wiki)

Please select which team(s) you would like to be involved with here:

As always...thanks for everything you're doing.

Jim Gilliam
producer, Brave New Films

P.S. The title vote went very well.. nearly 6,000 people voted... but quite to my surprise, everyone decided to keep the same title!! Maybe we shouldn't second guess ourselves? If you haven't seen the cover art, check it out:

P.P.S. And yeah, the angry smiley is stupid. Jesse and I both think it should be the evil smiley that's on the website... Robert has agreed to an "up-or-down" vote on it, and we'll be setting that up shortly.. in the meantime, if you agree with us (hehe), you can weigh in at saveevilsmiley.com. :)

1. I went to the website and I think its a great idea -film intro is really
off to a good start - I just want more people to realize all of the negative effects caused by shopping at Wal Mart. I know many people find it hard to let go of wal mart, esp. since its "so much cheaper" I was wanting to know more about what needs to be done as far as research/fact checking, etc. Thanks for the good work!
