Military recruiters met by protesters at career fair (CA)
Apr 21 2005 12:00AM

By LAURA NORTON
OF THE REGISTER-PAJARONIAN

Under the vigilant watch of nearly 20 police officers and Watsonville High School administrators, a countywide coalition of anti-recruitment activists protested the military's presence Tuesday during the school's annual senior career fair.

Waving signs and chanting anti-war and anti-military slogans in front of the Veterans Memorial Building, the activists - Brown Berets, Resource Center for Nonviolence staff and University of California, Santa Cruz, students - protested the military's anti-gay policies and high recruitment of low-income and Latino students, as well as the war in Iraq. <snip>

The group was surprised by the police presence at the Veteran's Memorial Building, where Watsonville officers guarded doors and military recruiters' tables and carried duffel bags of riot gear. <snip>
