Poll question: Best sketch comedy, 1990-Now
I bought the In Living Color season 1 set and have been laughing my ass off. Those were the days... And some of ILC is much funnier than shows being made today, even those which are even more edgy.

3. Ditto
The first time I watched it (in the presence of some politically questionable young Southern fellows, I was borderline uncomfortable. Like a moth to flame, I returned again and again until I finally saw it for the profound social commentary that it is.

2. The Kids in the Hall
I thought was more cutting edge than MadTV, etc. SNL has waxed and wanned, but it's been a solid force for 30 years.

I liked In Living Color, too, but I think KITH was the most creative.

26. Definately the Kids in the Hall
SNL's skits are always based on current events/popular culture; the Kids pretty much bypassed all that and just went for creating great characters or having a skit with an absurd interpretation of real life experiences.

I think the Kids are more timeless, whereas w/ SNL you have to think back to what was happening at the time.

4. The State
It was on MTV for a while when I was in high school/college. Must've been early 90s.

I really like the Chappelle (sp?) show, and Kids in the Hall, definitely.

10. Other: SNL, but only the political skits
Other than the original cast, I've generally found SNL skits to be dissapointing. But the political satire has always been hilarious, imho.

If they ever produced a compendium of SNL political skits I'd buy them in a heartbeat. You could probably do one DVD per Presidential term. (Maybe 1 DVD set per term?)

All three beat the living crap out of the popular sketch-com shows.

17. KITH and Mr. Show
Currently Chapelle leads the pack, but it ain't much of a pack. Why does so much current comedy rely on shit/fart/puke humor? Yeesh.

I am guaranteed to laugh very hard out loud for every sketch on that show. A close second is Chapelle's Show, which at least a dozen times a show I will laugh out loud.

22. Almost live.
Local Seattle sketch comedy that played after SNL. It wasn't very edgy, but it was based locally.

My favorites are Chappelle's Show and Kids in the Hall. SNL is funny, but it needs to screen out the crap skits.

24. Oh wow! Chappelle season 1 can be had on DVD!
I'm ordering it, man! This show is hilarious, it's like ILC on hard liquor!!! :D People magazine can go sod off too for criticizing him!

Of course, sometimes things are funnier with the bleeps. The DVD has no bleeps... of course, they had some fuzzy bits over other things, so that might be nice to see, even though guessing is probably adequate... :D
