I'm sitting in this studio running a syndicated program on our FM station this morning, and I can hear our resident church lady running her Easter show on our AM station just down the hall.
She's been a part of these radio stations for over 50 years. She used to be the receptionist and kind of fell into the church gig. I've known her for over 20 years. I've bounced in and out of this station ever since I started here back in the early '80s.
The interesting thing about her is that she was here, of course, when Rock first started in the '50s. She loves to tell the story of this young man who came into the station one weekday afternoon, trying to get the station to play his new record. He made the rounds and talked to each and every person. When he was ready to leave, he kissed her on the cheek. As he left the building, the manager turned to her and said, "Yeah, he's a nice boy; but he'll never make it."
Don't get a ahead of me now. Yeah, it was Elvis.
