Kraftwerk is touring the US again!
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 12:50 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Just read a little blurb in Wired Magazine that Kraftwerk are touring the US again, for the first time since the 90s. No schedule or anything, but I'm they (Kraftwerk) have a website that would give details.

Exciting!

Now if we could just them, Einsturzende Neubauten, and Tangerine Dream to form one group and do a tour...

1. I saw them last time around
in Chicago. Great show! Especially when they got out the robotic Kraftwerkers for 'We Are the Robots.'

2. Thank you for mentioning Tangerine Dream
Those guys are INCREDIBLE! Of course, Kraftwerk aren't bad either! :)

But can I recommend that we add Art of Noise to that billing? :)

4. I don't know Art of Noise
But if you think they would fit with the others (and remember, I'm talking making one large band, not just touring together) then so be it, they shall be added!

What does Art of Noise do?

11. I'm sorry, I was unclear
I didn't need album names, I meant, "What kind of music do they do?"

13. pardon
one album title, with tracks i thought you might recognize. reviewer on amazon says it better than i could.

-snip-
Yeah, "Moments in Love" is a brilliant, evocative, smooth, and eminently romantic tune, and this is the album that's got it. But don't expect anything else even remotely close to this song. The rest of this recording is beat and bass, politics and issues, and electronic manipulation/experimentation. We've got a re-mix of their signature "Beat Box" as well as the video-powered hit "Close (To The Edit)." The Art Of Noise came about as a bridge between the electronic music heroes/dinosaurs (Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre) and the electronica-techno-synth stars of today (Moby, Chemical Brothers, Enigma), and largely remains there. It's generally fun music, most of it undeniably danceable, and the closer you listen, the more pointedly editorial and political it becomes. But don't expect a soupy collection of powerful romantic odes.

14. Well, since I said I wasn't familiar with Art of Noise and hadn't
heard them . . . of course I wouldn't recognize their album or track titles. :-)

Thanks for the amazon review link - that explains a lot. Soumds like it's surely worth listening to! Some day I'll give 'em a listen. I would probably enjoy them.

15. You'd recognize this track title:
"Kiss."

You know, the Prince song.

Art of Noise had a BIG hit with it; Tom Jones sang.

16. Dont' forget their cover of...
Kiss (originally by Prince). Tom Jones sings on their version.

There's also "Paranoimia" with guest vocalist, "Max Headroom".

As to whether or not it fits with the rest of the lineup, it wouldn't be out of place, but it would be a little more "pop" than the rest. I have a concert by the Art of Noise I taped off Mtv years ago (they were still playing music videos back then). They're a lot more interesting live than you would think for a band driven largely by sequencers in the studio. The freakiest part was the vocoded three part female backing vocals. Or was it the drum solo (no shade, no shine, no ..., each on a different drum pad). Or was it...

favorite albums of all time.

I think maybe I just don't "get" Kraftwerk.

6. Kraftwerk, TD and Klaus Schulze
formed the original Berlin sound.

I have had the pleasure of interviewing TD once, prior to their 1993 Denver appearence (their last US tour), and interviewing Schulze once (over email, for an online music zine), in 1998.

Kraftwerk has managed to elude me. Perhaps I'll get them this time around.

7. Bartos did tour the USA in 2003
He isn't part of Kraftwerk any more, but his latest album "Communication" is considered to be better than "Tour de France".

17. I seem to remember hearing about a Vancouver show also.
Never heard if it was confirmed though, so don't take that as gospel.
