Friday Night Kitty Thread--How Needy/Affectionate is Your Kitty?
My two cats are sisters--Scarlet likes to cuddle and sit on my lap, but she can be very independedent and sit and sleep by herself often.

Melanie, however, follows me everywhere. When I sit down at the table, or here on the computer, she jumps into my lap. When I'm in the kitchen she'll sit on the floor and watch me. And whenever I go into the bedroom she runs in, hops on the bed, and starts yelling at me. She wants me to lay down so she can curl up on my arm. Definitely a needy kitty, and I dread the first day of school when I have to send her off on her own...oh, wait, she's a cat, not a child...I forget sometimes.

And what about your cat(s)?????

1. It sorta depends...
Sid is pretty independent, most of the time, but there are times he changes into this purring, affectionate, rub-my-tummy creature we call 'the smoosh kitty'... :)

2. I had a kitty named Bear
a looong time ago. I thought that he was so special and that he loved me so much, 'cuz he was give me kisses (like dogs a lick here or there), well until I saw him licking a shovel in the garage.

3. Quinn is surprisingly independent much of the time. . .
but early in the morning and late evenings, he's like an immobile fluffy pillow that purrs at a glance :)

4. Calvin, the still living half of Calvin and Hobbes
is an independent, royal pain in the ass. Just like his namesake.

He's a 13 yr. old Maine Coon. We assume Hobbes met a pack of Coyotes. He had a $800 run in with a car when he was young but thats another story.

My son takes Calvin to bed with him at night but the cat opens the door and comes to wake me. I end up heaving him outside every night.

But other than that he's very affectionate, If he's being fed, brushed or carried. And during brushing he tends to give out affectionate little scars as thanks.

Meeeeoooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

5. mine are polar opposites...
my comrade of old is 12 and independent, except he likes certain things and expects them to be maintained, like prime position next to me in bed.

The teenager, who is 2, is a nut. He flops over like a dog for belly rubs, follows me everywhere, and constantly hollers at me when I'm in the kitchen for me to come play with him.

But he's been good for the older cat, even though the older cat hates him

7. Simba is EXTREMELY lovey-dovey and dependent
He must be near us at all times. He usually lies on my chest while I'm studying or on my husband's lap while HE'S studying. Monty is less dependent, but he has become more lovey-dovey since Ferg died. Right now he's curled up next to my husband, something he very rarely does. He loves to be in the room with us, but hasn't always been keen on sitting on or next to us, so this is a very welcome development!

10. I raised a Siberian Tiger from ten days on
When I am in the area now, she prefers for me to sleep
on her great fluffy belly. She puts her giant arm around me -
very gentle and soft paw. She loves me.
People who think cats don't love know nothing at all.
If ever you wish to learn all about 'domestic' cats -
raise a 'wild' cat the way you would raise your own child.

Thought that maybe his urinating out of the box might be anxiety related.

14. Well, mine is psychotic, plus bulimic.
How do Prozac and Prolixin mix? And Ensure? Plus, her sleep cycles have nothing to do with the life of the rest of the household, so I was thinking Halcyon and No-Doz? and then some Maalox to calm her upset stomach from the pharmaceuticals? But not to give the Maalox too soon after all the other drugs so they can have their effect properly?

What to do, what to do (sigh).

Y'all are nuts with these cats.

Us, too.

13. All of my cats love to be pet
but not held.

Sometimes the girls (Millie and Siouxsie) will jump on my lap when I'm watching TV. Almost always they want to be with me when I'm in bed.

Cosmo likes to patrol the kitchen when I'm in there cooking or doing dishes. If you talk to him, he'll purr.

15. Both my cats are lap sluts
Reno (black kitty) is also a food slut and like Pavlov's kitty, runs to the kitchen when he hears the 'ding' of the microwave, buzz of the oven, or the refridgerator door open,

Noah (white kitty) follows me around all day and has to be in the same room as me, even if he's sleeping.

They're both so sweet...

And he does have a STRONG personality. Looks right through you. He is very assertive-knows what he wants. But he's also a cuddly lap slut who loves to 'groom' his humans.

19. Big Kitty sits on my mouse when I have been on 'puter too long
The first year after we took him in as a stray, he could not wait to go outside. Now he just whine to go out to use the Big Litterbox and turns around and comes inside again (won't use the litter box inside no matter how clean it is - it appears to be beneath his dignity). When I am home on weekends, he follows me around while I am doing housework and even in the yard. He's never more than 10 feet away and if I walk by without petting him, he meows really loud. He's really a one-person cat though. His favorite things are being scratched under the chin and going nose-to-nose with me for a good nuzzle :-)

22. My cats are very affectionate.
I have two; a quiet, gently lady and a brash, pushy, bossy tom.

They tend to hang out in the room I'm in. When they decide they need lap time, whatever I'm doing better move aside!

They both spend at least part of the night on my bed; during the winter, all night. Now that it's spring, they have other interests to pursue, so will come and go.

They love me so much they are constantly bringing me gifts. This morning, my little girl perched on my hip and meowed to remind me that I'd overslept. As soon as she felt a response, she took off. When I rolled over, sat up, and swung my feet over the side of the bed, I discovered that she'd left me a gift to express her undying devotion. A rat, neatly dispatched and placed just where my feet hit the ground.

25. Rio is affectionate and cuddly, but also likes to escape under the bed
for hours.
Layla is playful, but usually reserves her real love and affection for my hubby; he is her human of choice. She crawls up on his shoulder and he holds her like a baby, her little paws over his shoulder and her head nuzzled into his neck, purring like crazy.

I'M the one who fought to get her into the house, and I am just a speed bump on the way to him...*lol*

27. not affectionate enough to suit me, but I love 'em all
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 10:54 AM by Bertha Venation
They all have their moments. Toby has a habit of getting up on the desk and laying where my fingers will touch him when I use the track ball. Silly boy. Daddy likes to curl up on Mrs. V.'s lap when she's using the computer. Daddy, Richard, and Harry like to curl up on her lap when she has the heating pad on her knees -- they like that a lot.

Cocoa is another story. She is a willful little Wench. She'll be cuddly when she wants to but will NEVER succumb to a human's wishes for lovin'. She won't even let me pet her without biting me or running away.

Edit: Bedtime is another story. If I stay up past ten pm on a weekend, Toby walks all over me. He's begging me to go to bed so he can curl up between my feet. Richard curls up next to my left ankle. Petey curls up to his left. Harry curls up at my side, where I can wrap my arm around him. They're that way when I fall asleep, and when I wake up, Daddy is where Harry was.

29. I think he has abandonment "issues"
because he was a pound cat, but my tuxedo (Figaro) HAS to be the center of attention whenever my husband & I are talking to each other. He HAS to be in the conversation too. So he "talks." A LOT. Most talkative cat I've ever seen/had. He'll even talk into the telephone upon request.

And he's a big licker/love-biter, too. Nearly licked me to death the other night.

He doesn't care for being picked up but I'm working on it. I will pick him up at least once a day for 30 seconds every day. He seems to be getting used to it.
