yes, there were people who believed then what helms believes. the big difference was that they DID flee situations where they couldn't live the way they wanted, couldn't practice religion the way they wanted.

and ALL the people on the boats signed up for that life.

helms wants to impose his puritanical views on people who want no part of it, casting himself in the role of the european tyrants from which the original puritans fled
