How do you DU
I DU on 3 different computers. Work I surf here on any of the various computers I find myself with idle time on (perk of being a sysadmin). From home I am either on my home brew AMD gaming system or my Toshiba Laptop with wireless connection. I can't stress enough how cool it is having a wireless net and a laptop. You DU anywhere, anytime. Weeee.

So how do you DU?

4. I set up a wireless access point
In my coffee shop. It's kinda funny, on Sundays we're closed, but I have quite a few people sitting with laptops outside in the patio area.

6. I DU in different ways, depending upon which
job I'm at (I have 3).

During the mornings I do research protocols for an encyclopaedia. Computer time has to be scheduled and all computers and data is shared amoung the department, there are 4 or 5 people all using the same resources at any given time. They don't take kindly to finding the hired help engaged in recreational surfing. But on the days I do their financials I get a whole computer to myself and periodically have 10 or 15 minutes to screw around with here and there. So, that would be the only perq to doing the financials. Otherwise, I have a laptop and on some of the quieter days I'll plug it in for a while and read usenet, post to DU, send chatty e-mails and generally live it up.

My second job involves teaching at the university level. The school frowns on my surfing the net while I'm supposed to be delivering lectures.

And the third job involves capturing the oral history and traditions of 3 native American tribes for the FBIA. I have my laptop with me and on some rare occassions do post during that time, but usually not. The work is too absorbing of my attention and interest.

So most of my DUing takes place in the afternoons and evenings that I don't work, and occurs from my home computer.

and I love it. Occasionally I will use Mrs. McLargehuge's 400mHz G3 Blue and White tower to DU, but it's rare.

8. From my laptop
with a wireless connection. Usually from my living room, but sometimes the porch, the local coffee shop and occasionally... um... the bathroom.

9. In the loft of my log cabin in the mountains.
I have two computers and my ham radio station on one end of the loft. My wife has her desk and computer station on the other end. Between us is a sleep sofa, a coffee table, two wing chairs, and a TV. Bookcases behind my work station and hers serve as room dividers. It is quite the cozy place. There is a full bath in the loft, too. Everyone loves the loft. I spend half a day, every day, up here writing ("showing up at the page").

10. desktop
at home. no job, so no work computer (oh, but back in the day! wow! ;-) )

i live out in the middle of nowhere, so i'm even on dial-up! how quaintly archaic, huh, for a geek like i am. i've been dialing up for well over a year now, and i'm still whining about how much i miss a hi-speed connection. i don't guess i'll ever get over it.
