Depo prevara?....... forgive the spelling.....any experience?
My wife has been on it for some time. No sex drive since. Anyone else have a similar experience? Any solutions? Please???? :)

I hate to add drugs on top of drugs but, there's gotta be some solution.

1. Condoms?
Copper IUD?
Vasectomy?

I have never been a fan of hormonal birth control. I've seen too many women just go nuts when taking the stuff.

2. Not me, but a friend
My best bud's girlfriend started using DP, and he complained that she lost her sex drive altogether. I remarked "That must be what makes it such effective birth control." He didn't hit me, but he would have been justified.

The solution in their case was to go off DP and start using other forms of birth control.

3. I was in the same boat
And to be honest, the solution (at least for me) was to get it out of my body and start using the sponge again (I found an online source that ships them from Canada). It was hard to trade the near-certainty of the hormonal product for the lower numbers on the sponge package, but having sex more than once a month was worth it for us. I also track my period/ovulation (I feel the slight bit of pain most months when the egg breaks out of the ovum); I am lucky enough to be regular, so again, that works for us. Good luck to you both.

4. It's spelled depo provera.
Try googling it. You'll come up with a lot of stuff.

5. Depression and lack of sex drive...
I have found that most hormonal BC does that to me, so I am now using a copper-only IUD. Best thing I've found yet. You don't have to remember anything, and if STD's aren't an issue, only pregnancy, then you don't have to think about anything else 'at the time'. I'd suggest trying something non-hormonal, if she can. Depo screwed me up for a good 5 months, from one shot :( I feel your pain, and it sucks. Good luck with an alternative!

6. I haven't heard anyone say anything good about Depo
Try a lower dose estrogen BC pill or an IUD (there are types with no hormones and it can increase her period a bit, but NO hormones! :) ).

7. Interestingly enough, I had never really taken the lack of sex drive as...
a serious side effect of depo. However, I have been on it for three months now and my sex drive has gone from 300 to about 4 in those three months. Thank Goodness!!! However, now that it is wearing off I have noticed that it is coming back a bit.

So depo definately affects some women's sex drive.

8. I Was On It For 10 Years
Loved it. Loved having no periods and no fear of sperm poisoning (pregnancy). I was surgically sterilized two years ago, and had an endometrial ablation last year. Depo has some drawbacks, but it was a much better option than risking a pregnancy.

I would advise that one or both of you get sterilized. No hormonal side effects and it lasts forever!
