This "bitch" business has turned the boards pretty incomprehensible -- I think I'll come back when it's died down. Honestly, we should already know that:

1. Calling any woman a "bitch" or "whore" in any context is not only disrespectful, but unimaginative
2. Any talk of banning anything in the light of Boobgate and the FCC's reaction to it is insane, especially on a supposedly progressive message board.

And two or three of those were in the 'bitch' discussion itself. Nonetheless, I find the idea of outright banning the word completely to be ridiculous. Personal attacks are already against the rules, and DUers aren't shy about letting someone know when they find something sexist that isn't a personal attack.

haven't seen flame wars like this since accidently venturing into the Gun Dungeon last month

THEN we have to have a poll AND a simultaneous NINTH thread for 'further discussion'

i don't have an exact count but it appears there are roughly LESS THAN A DOZEN people who make this word their central reason for existing on the planet and we have to endure THIS?

waiting for another poll to ask everyone if its ok for members to fart while posting, or if they should allow people to post ONLY after they have showered

I know I am a newbie, but what is this fuss with the word bitch? I am a feminist from waaaay back when we were burning bras and it doesn't bother me. It's no more "sexist" than calling a guy a "prick". We have bigger fish to fry, people. The world is burning, the fox is in the hen house, the body bags are piling up, and we are offended by "bitch"?

I almost reacted to someone's thread yesterday where the word figured prominently in regard to females and then decided not to. I really dislike the word and do think it is offensive in certain contexts, but it can certainly be used in other ways. Missed the ban talk... where is a good recap of that?
