An old woman just became annoyed over my listening to Air America.
It's a slow day at work, so I was sitting in the parking lot in my delivery vehicle. I had the windows down and Air America tuned in.

An elderly customer came out of the drugstore and walked over to the car next to mine. As Randi Rhodes' dulcet tones crackled through the static of my radio, the old woman turned to me and, with a disgusted look on her wrinkled face, asked, "What in the world are you listening to?"

"Air America," I replied.

"What's Air America?"

"It's a new radio network for liberals and progressives."

Her gray eyebrows rose perceptibly. "The liberals have a radio network?"

"They sure do."

She shook her head. "I never thought I'd see the day...."

With that, she got into her car and left.

1. Too funny!
And you tell the story so well, I can picture it all perfectly.

2. Funny.
I never thought I'd be discussing talk radio is a positive way with friends. It is strange indeed.

15. Hell, maybe she even liked the idea
...and was only annoyed she hadn't found it first.

The steady right wing neocon hate drumbeat all over the airwaves is getting boring for fools who follow the latest fashion and call themselves conservatives, too.

16. I hope you're right, but the look on that old woman's face and...

...the tone of her voice strongly suggested otherwise.

4. We need more bumper stickers, and a great slogan.
Like: Air America Radio, True Air for True Americans

6. I sent AA my suggestion already.
"Air America Radio: They liked it better when we didn't fight back."

7. Great one!
That's excellent!

Inspires: "Air America: Not right, but never wrong."

11. New slogan idea...
"Air America Radio - 100% more truth on 100% less hot air."

8. In Hartford???
Musta been West Hartford or Farmington?

I was going to ask which planet were you on, but realized the rich white folks in the wealthy suburbs of one of the poorest cities in the country hold onto their conservative "values" and idiocy pretty hard. And I know you're in Hartford, right?

10. I live and work in East Hartford.
However, the section of town where the drugstore is located is populated primarily by elderly whites who came up in radically different times than we live in now!

14. A lot of elderly, though,
are far more liberal than the younger crowd, especially those who came of age in the FDR era. My paternal grandparents (both dead now ) were VERY liberal/progressive, and always tried to reason with their friends and family who were wingnuts.

9. Why do your posts seem to be duplicated?
I noticed that this is the second one of your posts that showed up twice. Are you entering duplicates in more than one forum?

I'm not monitoring your posts - I just happened to notice.

12. Truth be told, I crossposted this one to General Discussion.
There tend to be different crowds in those respective forums, both of which I thought might find my story interesting.

13. LOL!
I love that! Guess they thought we'd sit down and shut up forever. If that happens again, you should ask them why they think it's okay for the repukes to have a radio network (and control TV and newspapers, etc., etc.), but we can't have a few lousy radio programs!

And most of the older people I know are quite liberal and would be very happy to hear of a liberal radio network!
