I'm thinking that how DU should start referring to him.

1. "Sir" still is a term of respect
He has not earned that from me.

9. I'd disagree completely that it is a term of respect

if it pisses him off. Everything in context.

I could call you "Your Magesty" but that doesn't make you the Queen of England, nor does it imply I believe you to be.

2. I have a few other choice words for him.
But mom always told me not to say anything at all if I had nothing nice to say. :-)

His ego was bruised. O arrogant one, you have not earned the respect of your countrymen.

can't wait for Nov.

i cannot in good conscious refer to him as Sir, though.

8. "Sir"
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 10:01 AM by supernova
"Sir" in the south is often used as a form of disdain. It's a very old idea and probably held over from the British, perhaps a layer of slaves getting back too.

It is said with great irony, noting that the person who is "sir-ed" doesn't, in fact, deserve to be called "Sir."

On second thought, probably all of this is way too subtle for pea-brained *.

11. Probably too subtle, yes.
And he's not from the south really, either. But it's always nice to get the cultural context behind usage. :hi:
