I am one of those square neurotic people that finds porn creepy.

But as long as it isn't involving people under 18 it's not illegal and I would never intrude on somebody else's right to look at it.

Now that I am thinking about this...what is Asscroft's definition of "porn" anyway --
I was speaking of hardcore porn above, but what's he referring to?

Cable shows like the Sopranos and Six Feet under?
(All of the above in MY opinion are certainly not porn)

See the other thread. Art must be creative, and it must aspire to do something besides get a vanilla white male stiff. Stimulating the, um, senses can be a part of art, but if that's all it is, then it's porn. I don't have a problem with porn, and it certainly shouldn't be banned, but to try to claim that Playboy is art isn't going to work. Art is not afraid of a variety of human bodies, it is not afraid to horrify as well as to arouse, it is not afraid to arouse the brain. Frankly, an issue of Over Fifty (because it steps outside the tiny little boundaries of what an attractive female form "should" look like) has more art in it than Playboy, and I sure wouldn't call Over Fifty art.

We need to be able to defend porn on its own merits, if we can't, trying to call it art is not going to work either. Either we are entitled to enjoy naked bodies in motion or we're not.

Just my opinion, worth what ya paid! But I would hate to think of a world so sterile that the only porn allowed to me is the tedious stuff of Playboy and Maxim -- "it's art if it doesn't show pink or a man" -- don't think so.

I wish oh I WISH I could remember ... I think it was Frontline... I know it was on PBS... anyway this program claimed that the focus of the JD before 9/11 was going to be... you guessed it - PORN! Not terrorists, not corporate crime... nope... PORN.

They were building cases and threatening producers. Getting all set to declare a war on porn. Then 9/11 happened and they had to stop wasting time on porn and go after terrorists. I guess now they feel the threat from terrorists is gone, so they can recommence with their porn-hunting crusade.
