Earthlink are thieves!!!!!!
Who should I call?
In after hurricane Isabel... my landline was down for a month. I decided that I did not need it... cell phones work fine... besides I wanted digital internet.... so I called and canceled.
Earthlink continued to take money from my bank account, I finally got them to stop this month and having been trying to get them to refund the money they took after I canceled my account....
WELL, they don't want to give it back.

The first two times I called, they said "oh, yea we'll give you a refund within 7 to 10 business days.... as you could guess.... NO REFUND!
So I called A THIRD time.... the customer service representative said "I'm passing this to my supervisor and you'll have your money within 48 -72 hours.... YOU GUESSED IT..... STILL NOTHING!
As I type I am on hold to speak to a supervisor.... i still don't believe that I'll actually speak to one..... it's a little like trying to get an audience with the pope....
what should i do?

1. Let them know you are going to state utilities commission
they will help you get it back. Had same problem with cable after I moved, as soon as I mentioned the commission, you could practically hear them writing the check.

3. Contact your bank
Most banks will instantly side with the cutomer on disputed charges for automatic drafts. They then leave it up to the billing company to try to collect. I had to do this once. I had to sign a form, but the bank was totaly cooperative. My money was credited back to my account that evening.

4. This is precisely why
I've made it a policy that NO ONE will ever have the authority to charge my credit cards at their discretion.

Dish Network popped me for $700 and it took 3 months to get it back.

I know I'll lose the opportunity to purchase certain services but that's a smaller price to pay.

Good luck to you. And, yes, Earthlink does suck.

5. My friend had a problem with them for this.....
She canceled her subscription with them and they just continued to bill her and bill her every month, taking bucks out of her credit card.

I can't remember how long it took her to get it taken care of. Evidently they have quite a reputation for this.

6. Just think these companies are pulling this off everyday
Thousands of people are being bilked and they keep over billing customers everyday.Plenty of people just give up, it takes so long to correct the mistake and the lying companies know this. Time is on their side.

9. that's pecisley the strategy

This may seem like a minor issue to some but it is a precurser to what I believe will be the class warfare that is bubbling up.

7. Oh, please...
You know you DEMS are all rich. You can afford to give that measly $29.95 a month to a poor and struggling company like Earthlink! <Sarcasm>

(I agree with all of the above. Especially contacting your bank.)

8. I had the same problem with AOL...
It's almost impossible to cancel their service. I cancelled that credit card, and now AOL wants $90. STill and this was back in 1999. I told them I tried to cancel, it was their fault. They'll get that money when Pigs fly out of my ass.
