The Bob Dylan sell-out.
:argh:

(Not only that, Dylan looks almost as bad as Keith Richards.)

1. Echoes of 1966
That same complaint was lobbed at Dylan when he went electric, although this time he really has sold out.

2. Exactly.
I mean, a damn women's underwear ad??!!??

I'd expect Dylan doing an anti-Bush ad.
An ad against SUV's and other gas hog cars.

But bras and panties?

3. The funny thing is that the crowd he's trying to appeal to in the ad
Don't generally know who he is--and he looks like a dirty old man....
The model with him looks about 20...

4. Et tu, Bob?
What a bummer. At least when he "sold out" in '66 he was being innovative and daring.

This is pathetic.

5. The ad is the weirdest thing on tv
Thanks, Bob.

One thing I treasure about the guy is how he is gleeful about sticking it to his own audience: personal not topical folk songs, electricity, country, radical re-visions of the classic hits, Christianity, etc.

"Il faut epater le bourgeois."

it all really doesn't matter. Sellout? Fuck. So he sells a few pieces of lingerie. Yeah, he looks like shit. Where has everyone been? He has looked like shit since at least the motorcycle accident. As Paul Kanter once said, "Fuck you, we do what we want." I'm guessing Bob feels that way, too. I'm also guessing that those who are pissed off at Bob and who "won't buy any more of records" have added precious little to his back royalty statements anyway.

6. I've said it before, I'll say it again!
If that's selling out, where do I sign up.

You want to know my honest opinion on it all? I say Bob looks damn good for a 62 year old man. He looks gaunt, maybe he's doing adkins.

Oh, and I sure hope he's knocking boots with at least a few of them models!

7. Sellout? Are you nuts?
He should have payed them.

Lets see: Hang out with a beautiful underware model during filming. Get your music on national TV. Get great footage for your music video. Did I mention the underware model? The down side would be...?

8. Oh leave Bob alone
He's obviously not doing it for the money.
He tours constantly at the age of 62 for Christ's sake, when he could just sit at home.
He puts his politics into his music.
I bet he doesn't give a flying f- what any of us think.

I'd wager none of us are ever going to contribute anything near the level Dylan did to the culture in a historical sense.

I'll still make the wager though.
& I seriously wish you luck.
Who knows, I might contribute something myself, but I'm tired of all the egos that think they're so great givng someone like Dylan, who is obviously significant and not just a legend in his own mind, flak.

13. Yeah leave the old man alone
Who knows why he does or has ever done anything?

It's kinda amazing that they put his FACE in a a VC ad! It's really kinda rad if you think about it. Like NO, you can't have my music without my withered visage singing it! Hah!

10. There's no proof that Dylan and the model were anywhere near each other!
They filmed the model in Venice. Bob's just standing around somewhere. No reason to believe it's the same room, day, city, continent. He probably never met the model.

...Okay, he probably met her.

18. Again: Thanks, Bob
Selling a CD in Victoria's Secret is so far past cool that it's ultra-cool. And who is the one American artist who can get by with something like that?
