Two beefs I have about retailers these days….
(1) Major beef: Quit making your cashiers ask us things like, “Do you have a Such and Such rewards card? You don’t? Here, this is how it works.” Or “Would you like to contribute a dollar to the fund for down and out Neocons?”

I just know the cashiers are sick of asking. Not only do they have a crappy job and have to stand all the time, but have to ask all customers about this, that, and the other.

(2) Minor beef: Points! Reward points! 2X points when the moon is full! It would take a CPA to keep up with all the points we hear about every day, so I don’t even try.

There, now I feel better.

1. that, and cashiers
that want your email or phone number as soon as you walk up to the counter, for whatever reason.

I am getting used to just kind of smiling and saying no before my stuff even starts to get rung up.

2. Years ago my dad was asked by a cashier at Sears for his
address and phone number when he was making a small purchase by cash. He asked why the information was needed, and when he didn't get a reasonable answer he told them: John Smith, Main St., Anytown, USA phone number 1234567.

The cashier duly noted the information and thanked him for his cooperation. LOL

3. Cashiers are usually monitored -electronically or in person- to make sure they are
using the proper verbiage. All big chain stores do this; a corporate stooge will go through their checkout lane and make a purchase to see whether the cashier smiles sufficiently and uses the right phrases -including any account promotions, etc. The resulting report goes into their personnel file. Sucks, too.

4. I interviewed to work PT at Sears and they said you get a bonus
Cashiers get $4 for every person they sign up for the Sears card. I never got hired, but I'd certianly ask people to sign up for the card if it meant I got an extra $4 each time someone actually signed up.
