I have a question about aquarium fish
I posted this in the pets forum but thought I'd post it here too.

My brother has a 125 gallon reef tank in his home. His birthday is coming up and I would like to give him a fish. I would like to know what fish I can give him that would be compatible with the ones he already has. Right now he has 2 tomato clown fish, 2 chocolate clown fish, 2 Naso Tangs. He also has a tiny lobster, a crab and 1 star fish.

1. I'd suggest a gift certificate from his favorite fish store

2. he may be getting up to about the safe limit
I don't remember details as it has been a long time but there is a rule of thumb for both fresh and salt water that runs something like x gallons per inch of fish

ask at the place you are thinking of buying from, they can advise best

3. I just want to get him something that will go well in the tank
I don't want something that is going to clash with the current occupants or eat them.

4. I would second Ptah's suggestion
I've got a 125g freshwater tank, and it's sometimes hard enough to find compatible fish for that. A saltwater tank is going to be much more problematic. A gift certificate ensures he gets exactly what he wants, and if it causes problems later, it's his problem, not yours. Besides, some of the equipment for saltwater tanks can be fairly expensive. If he needs a new filter pump, skimmer or lights, a gift certificate can help a lot.
