4. I grew up in Michigan, where breaded veal cutlet sammitches and hot roast beef sammitches,,,
.
.
.
... on white bread with french fries -- everything DRENCHED in thick brown gravy -- were bar-closing-time standards.
.
.
.
It just now struck me that these fries MAY have been our version of poutine (hold the curds, please).
.
.
.
At least when I was growing up, Michigan WAS in the general vicinity of Canada.

5. So, you're one of us, are you?
Did you flee to avoid the winter? Because, you know, we're sending out the posse to roundup those snowbirds and bring them back. Going to be a La Ninja winter, you all must suffer!

Honestly, I know a few restaurants serve poutine in this area, but I've never encountered it personally. Cheese fries pop up on quite a few menus, but not true poutine with cheese and gravy.

10. Raised in Jackson 'til 17 and joined the Army -- saw the world...
.
.
... and eventually moved back to Jackson. What a WONDERFUL place to grow up in my era -- skating, toboganning (broke THREE over
the years on runs down Devil's Dip), fishing (though I was never into actually CATCHING anything), snappin' turtle huntin' -- lived near
The Cascades, so a LOTTA home-made soap box derby cars (picture The Little Rascals contraptions), baseball, hockey, nearby woods --
a safe and fun and endlessly entertaining place for a kid.
.

.
Was fucking bored to tears as an adult within a month or two of moving back. Had nothing in common anymore with my childhood friends
(I was gone 10 years and they were probably NEVER going to live anywhere else). Made all new friends of mostly Michigan "immigrants"
(and a few locals who, like I, had lived elsewhere for a while).
.
.
Moved to a more interesting locale/life as soon as possible.
.
.
.
I miss Jackson's unique Coney Island hot dogs -- thin yellow mustard, a TON of fresh diced onions, and a chili sauce whose main
ingredient seemed to be ground beef heart (tip o' the cap to the Captain).
.
.
.
And this thread caused me to buy a package of frozen steak fries at the store today.
.
.
.
Guess what's going to go on top?
.
.
.
Not down with the curd, though.

6. The white stuff if its made right are cheese curds but let me warn you to never ever try it
because you will become a slave to poutine. After poutine regular fries will never ever satisfy.

12. McDonald's has Happy Meals® , Burger King has Angry Poutine®
BURGER KING(R) Restaurants of Canada, Inc. is on a mission to become the nation's #1 destination for all things poutine by expanding their Classic Poutine offering. For a limited time, the new ANGRY POUTINE(TM) and POUTINE WITH BACON are available at participating BURGER KING(R) restaurants across the country.

Building on the success of their signature ANGRY WHOPPER(R), the ANGRY POUTINE(TM) takes the Classic Poutine recipe and adds jalapeno peppers, crispy angry onions and the signature angry sauce - a combination guaranteed to get Canadians fired up. The POUTINE WITH BACON starts with the Classic Poutine and then adds a load of bacon for a big, delicious and indulgent difference.

17. Its nasty, is what it is
Anything with "brown gravy" can go take a flying leap into a empty cement pool. Especially the fungal oriented versions, which are the most disgusting of the lot.

Make me some poutine with a good white pepper gravy, and we can negotiate a fair price.
