John Phillips. "She's Only 14." 'She got the moves, yeah she got looks' - WTF????
This is about his fucking DAUGHTER????

Here's the FULL lyrics, for context:

She’s just 14 – little movie star queen
There isn’t much she hasn’t seen
She “did it” in a limousine car
She datd pop stars
Hey Rainbow Hair, say that’s no where

But she always says
I’m just a sexy trash can
But she’s just a little girl, who thinks like a man
And sometimes her Daddy’s spoiled her
Sometimes he treated her rough
Sometimes she’s gentle
Sometimes she’s tough

But she is always too nice to the driver
She says James have you had your supper
And she’s always too high on arrival
And she runs on her high platform heels
And she falls flat on her face and she knows how life feels

She got the moves, yeah she got looks
She got the style, she’s read all the books
And nobody got her on her hooks
She’s on a real smooth trip, yes a real smooth trip

She’s always too nice to the driver
She says James have you had your supper
And she’s always too high on arrival
And she runs on her high platform heels
And she falls flat on her face and she knows how life feels

I see her sipping her Thunderbird wine
Wonderin’ if she’s the last word in space and time
And she knows she is, She’s so pleased to discover
She’s so hip. She’s on a smooth trip.

Well she’s always too nice to the driver
She says James have you had your supper
And she’s always too high on arrival
And she runs on her high platform heels
And she falls flat on her face and she knows how life feels

WHAT THE FUCK?????

A lust song to your daughter???

2. 50's Rock-n-Roll songwriters were often accused of pedophilia in their lyrics...
.
.
.
but (and I believe this) most of THEM were writing from
the perspective of themselves (or others) when they were
in early-to-mid adolescence.
.
Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie":
.
"There she is again over there by the record machine
Lookin' like a model on the cover of a magazine
Too damn cute to be a minute over 17."
.
I always thought Bob Seger's cover of that (on his "Live
Bullet" album) was EXCEPTIONAL, if more than a little
disturbing by his near-spoken-word seemingly-PERSONAL
addition of "M-m-m-m, I believe that" and his changing
of the age to 13.
.
.
.
But... knowing what we know about John Phillips -- this is
pretty fucking sick.
.
.
.

3. Not just the 50's
Where it began
I can't begin to knowin'
But then I know it's growin' strong

Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along

Hands, touchin' hands
Reachin' out
Touchin' me
Touchin' you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would

But now I
Look at the night
And it don't seem so lonely
We fill it up with only two
And when I hurt
Hurtin' runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when I'm with you

Warm, touchin' warm
Reachin' out
Touchin' me
Touchin' you

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
Oh, no, no

Sweet Caroline
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
Sweet Caroline

The Caroline in question is Caroline Kennedy, aged 11 at the time he wrote the song.

4. That guy was pretty much the gold standard of scumbags.
I have no doubt he did the things his daughter accuses him of.

5. Papa John was the biggest scumbag in the entertainment industry
and that's really saying something.
He was massively gifted, though. Stunning talent.

6. what would you like us to say?
fucking his daughter was wrong

trying to gut it out and honestly express his feelings in art/music was not wrong, it's what an artist/musician is OBLIGATED to do
