2. I think that's my favorite too
Would only work if you had a passenger though. Could you imagine picking up a hitchhiker and saying; "hey, I'll give you a ride, but if it starts raining, I'm gonna need you to pull on that rope"

6. We did that once
Wiper motor failed during a snowstorm in the Sierras. Tied a wired from one blade to the other via the wing windows in the truck. Looped it through the closed end of a wrench for the passenger to control. It worked great.

3. A friend of mine once had a '68 Ford
the throttle of which was manipulated with a bent coathanger sticking through the dash and connected to the carbueretor.

Good thing it had an automatic tranny.

12. Yeah, I think it's a little unfair to call all of those 'worst' - some of them are clearly
intended to be funny. But I hope to god none of the wheel-related ones actually went onto a real street...

8. I've done some of those and more...
Vice grips as battery clamp
Screwdriver as ignition key
I also use vice grips to replace a snapped off stick shift.

11. This one looks promising

A good mid level marketer could get these produced and sell them through Pep Boys as a car customizing product.

(I bet it would be a hit with rednecks!)

15. An old (now deceased) friend told a story of WW II
Edited on Thu Sep-01-11 10:15 AM by NV Whino
They had their 49 Ford shipped to Guam. After only a short time, the muffler rusted due to the extreme humidity, and there were no spare parts to be had. Her husband (in the medical corp) and his buddies used plaster cast material to "fix" it. The fix work fine until they and they car got back to the states and astounded their mechanic.
