1. I'm 45 miles SE of the epicenter, and it was a really good shake.

We had a 5.3ish quake in the same area about five years ago, and this one was definitely stronger.

3. The 5.3 one from a few years back was definitely different.

That one was like a series of explosions - really loud and "thumpy." This one was focused and intense, and really shook the house (three stories plus a basement)! And once again, the cats knew; seconds before it hit, Weird Harold sprinted from the living room, up the stairs, and under the bed!

4. Luckily, foreshocks are relatively rare.

Aftershocks, however, can continue for quite some time; Christchurch, NZ is still getting them. The good news is, they'll be smaller than the main quake.
