MiddleFingerMom was competitive in his younger years... VERY competitive.

.
When he was a bartender in Michigan, he and his best friend, Roger (a bartender at MFM's
favorite bar) arranged for the same night off in way too many months. Barhopping was
involved.
.
Suddenly, they realized they had JUST enough time (if they, you know... broke a SHITLOAD
of speed laws) to get to Roger's bar for last call. LOSER BUYS!!!!!!
.
A gray, VERY drizzly night. Roger in is car. MFM on his motorcycle.
.
(I think I just heard a collective, "Oh... I see where THIS is going.")
.
Taking advantage of his assets, MFM took many shortcuts through yards between streets
to gain a fairly significant lead over Roger. One last sharp curve between him and VICTORY!!!
.
Went into the curve too fast for a WET street. Had to lay it down and S-L-I-D-E through
the curve. His tires hit the curb and the bike popped up PERFECTLY and stayed upright.
.
Dazed. Confused. Fucking UNHARMED!!! Roger (that damn CHEATER) took full advantage of this.
He slowed and made sure that MFM was (relatively) OK, started laughing like a maniac, and sped
off to the bar two blocks away...where MFM soon found him, still laughing like a maniac, with their
drink (OK... THREE drinks) in front of him and holding out the tab for MFM to pay.
.
.
.
(Note for those outraged: MFM DID finally realize that it was stupid and criminally thoughtless to
drink and drive... but THIS motorcycle incident was not his eye-opener.)
.
.
.
MFM has led a charmed life.

3. I've been working hard and then sleeping hard because of it
Not much time for DU. I've been putting in 55-60 hours a week on a 5 day work week. I basically lounged around all weekend after visiting with relatives a little on Saturday. I was able to get some reading done and I cherish being able to do that now days. I've been reading Carl Sagan- excellent, excellent, excellent. It saddens me to think that he died so young. Even though he left us with an impressive body of work there is so much more I think he could have given us had he not been cut down too soon.

Everything at work is changing for me which is good changing mostly, but it's stressful learning how to drive different kinds of trucks and learning new routes. At the very least I'll get one story out of it, though, which is also a good compensation.

I'm glad to see you back at it here in the lounge. :)
