1. I love storage wars - it's so fricking campy fun!
Probably because they have these 4 regular guys who just work well together for television.

I was reading a bit about the background of the show. Brandi really wasn't suppose to be a part of the show but the fact that those 2 bicker so much she became a regular.

I mainly watch it for Brandi & Jarrod - who have to be the best couple on TV and especially for Barry. I'd love to have beers with Barry - that guy is a hoot. But the show also built up a big rivalry between Darrell and Dave too. I also read where Dave isn't that big of a jerk in RL - just how they manage to edit the show.

3. Big Storage Wars fan here.
I still can't figure out why I like it so much, but I will stay glued to the t.v. and watch one episode after another. Barry is a little campy, a little Hollywood, but he and Darryl are my favorites. Dave's not such a bad guy, but he is not as outgoing as the rest.

5. I know why we love this show - and btw it's the top rating show on A&E ever
It's because there is such drama between these 4 guys. A&E lucked out and got such great chemistry with Daryl, Dave, Jarrod and Barry. And even though they are working against each other they just mesh well. You toss Brandi into the mix along with Dave Jr. and Brandon (Daryl's son) and it's a great mix of people.

I just watched San Burrito again and that show was just off. There was no Dave Hester that week and instead they showed that creepy Mark Balalo (Or as Brandi calls him 'Rico Suave'). It was great seeing how the 4 guys all banded together but honestly less of Mark the better. Although I did get a good laugh when his '$13k Nitendo DS' was only work about $10.

6. Don't you find it a little suspicious that with the exception of Mark Balalo, nobody else seems to
bid. I have to wonder if these are private auctions or if A+E just gives them money to spend to bid the price up beyond anything anyone else will pay

7. There is always a big group but no one bids but just the guys.
If I owned a storage unit I would clean them myself and keep any goodies.

I like this show and Billy.

The DVR is always set for these two shows.

9. Sometimes other people do bid...
They just dont seem to ever win.

You'd think there would be hoards of people at these auctions trying to get on tv.

And yeah, I don't know why the storage places dont just liquidate the items. I guess there's more money to be made auctioning of the rubbish ones.

10. I have a friend who worked at a storage unit when she was going to college.
She got paid extra to clean out storage units whent the rent was over due.

Sometimes the stuff was really good, most of the time it was junk.

14. Think about it this way - each season they probably showcase 60 lockers total
They do 20 episodes a season and each week they only show 3 lockers (usually one guy goes home empty handed).

I'm suspecting that the probably have about 100-200 auctions each season that they film but only pick the best to show in the series.

11. I did that. Held an auction for contents of some storage units.
I was helping out a friend who had to be out of town on some other business.
It's fairly complicated.

First, you have to make a 'good faith' effort to contact the space renters who haven't paid in months.
And you have to document everything.
Registered letters to last known address, etc.
The addresses and phone numbers on their applications/contracts are rarely good anymore.
Then you have to run a legal ad in the local paper for three successive issues.

"Contents of the storage unit at XYZ Storage located at 234 12th St. (city) in (county) rented by Joe Doaks last known address (etc.) will be sold at public auction on August 22, 2011 at 10:00 am, due to nonpayment of rental"

There is a group of bidders who regularly arrive.

There are 'rules'.
(I have no idea who established these 'rules'. I got a lot of help from another storage operator. I'd never done anything like this before.)

You open the door to the unit.
No one is allowed to go inside or paw through stuff that can be seen.
Successful bidder must remove contents within 24 hours and unit must be SWEPT CLEAN.
Any violation of these rules and you're disqualified from the next offering.

Many times all you can see is a wall of cardboard boxes.
It's a crapshoot for bidders.

Interesting: Most of the junk in these units isn't worth more than a month of two rental fee.
Why do people pay to store crap?
:eyes:

12. No wonder my friend was paid extra.
My sister has 2 large storage units full of crap.

This is not including the house that is full of crap or her apartment that is full of crap.

13. I have a buddy who just started going to these auctions.
He and his son won a couple bids for low money and once came home with about 50 printers and shredders. Another time, they got mostly clothes. Gave a lot away. But snagged seven full pimp suits. Green crushed velour 3-piece with Kangol. You get the picture. Crapshoot really.

15. That would be pretty consistent with the show then.
Except they almost always find at least high dollar item. It's pretty rare when they don't at least make their money back.
