I hate when people do this (about email)
So I send some one some info through email. I tell them verbally I will be sending it and could they please respond so I know they got it.
At the end of my email I say;
"Please respond so I know you received this. Just hit reply and I'll know. I really need to know that this got to you, so a response, any response is important to me. You don't need to tell me anything but that you received this email. Thank you so much for a response."

The next day I send a new email asking if they got the info.

Three days later without a response I call, and they usually say "Oh yeah, I got that."

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

1. If you're using Outlook as your email software
you can set an option for a delivery receipt or a read receipt, that way you'll know the person got it without them having to send you an email in response. People get busy -- it's not unusual for me to have 40 - 50 "pending" emails in my inbox at any given time (considering I get probably 100+ per day, and reading / responding to email is not the only thing I have to do all day) -- and they may just overlook your request - which is obviously very important to you, but is probably like priority number 423 on their list of things to do........you know?

2. Thanks
I try the request, but it often doesn't work. The internet gets hinky sometimes.
The thing is this often happens when it is an important project, not some arbitrary little email exchange. I need to know they have the info to go forward. So not responding is a block to the work.

3. Are they co-workers? A couple suggestions because what you are doing is not working.
1.) Preferably if you are using Outlook - use the tools - return receipt or read receipt. If you don't get receipts THEN follow up with an email confirming they received yours. However return/read receipt should be used sparingly. If you return receipt everything people will start responding NO when the pop-up asks them if they want to return receipt. I know that I do.

2.) If you are not using Outlook and they are co-workers then put a SHORT message at the start of the email. If I got that long message you sent I would be annoyed as hell.

In my experience, the more concise an email is, the more effective it is. I have one customer who always responds to my first question in an email and leaves the second unanswered. I swear his brain switches off after 2 sentences. So now he gets 1 email for each question.

Good Luck!
