What did they do to Firefox?
I have problems opening up links, especially to Youtube videos. When I go to other sites they don't always load completely. One site sits there and tells me it's still loading and never stops. I never used to have these problems but when I went to version 4 it started getting really bad. The worst thing in V.4 was having to hit Shift-Reload to get the videos to show the right ones.

Oh Firefox what has happened to you?

2. I'm on 3.6.18 and it works fine. I give new releases at LEAST six months before upgrading.
That's just for good software. I generally wait longer for M$ stuff, but I have to admit that I'm impressed with Win7 and even leave auto-update on (unlike with Vista). To be fair, I've only got one Win7 box and it is running Win7 Ultimate 64 on an i7, so I can't really say the stability is there for other flavors. It CERTAINLY isn't there on Vista, and I've got several boxes running that now. I just ordered a Win7 Home Premium 64 laptop for my middle daughter (graduation present) so I guess I'll find out if auto-update works on that version.

I know, I know - the post was about Firefox. I suggest going back to 3.6.18 for a few months. Before going through that hassle, did you check for updates to your plug-ins? The update to the browser version doesn't necessarily mean that the plug-ins were updated as well. It can't hurt.

5. I have a Mac and use Safari and have very few problems.
Maybe you should switch to a Mac. Plus they are fairly immune to viruses.

6. It's unacceptably slow anymore.
I gave up and switched to Chrome.

7. I just updated to version 5 the other day.
Firefox still does not like PDF files. It locks up and I can only get out by doing CTRL-ALT-Delete.

Sometimes sites take forever to load (or do not load at all).

In the last couple of versions it also REALLY chokes on any kind of scripting. It will run fine for a while, then I'll right-click on a photo to save it and I get the "unresponsive script" pop-up.

Sometimes I get tired of dealing with it and switch to Opera or Google Chrome for a bit, but they have their quirks too, so ultimately I end up back at Firefox.

I do notice that Firefox always runs better right after I've restarted the computer. That can be said for just about any program, I guess, but I actually notice the difference in performance with Firefox.

And the biggest annoyance is when Firefox tries to restore a previous session, and that session included a PDF file that locked up the browser. Then I have no choice other than restarting the computer.

8. My Firefox has an option on restart after a crash...
...where it shows a list of the tabs that were open when the browser took a shit. You can uncheck whatever you want before hitting "Restore Session".

It might be an option you have to turn on.

9. It turned itself on when I installed the latest V4 update
I never want my browser to open with previously viewed tabs. I always clean my cache on exit and always prefer a clean start with just my home page. But somehow, in the last update I did before the V5 update, it re-set preferences to restore the previous session the next time I open it.

I basically have to go in and tweak the settings so it won't do that anymore. I used to have "Private Browsing" turned on, but if you do that, it won't remember passwords. I've been using that function since RoboForm screwed Firefox users over and IMMEDIATELY issued an update when Firefox Version 4 came out, but instead of it being a free one for paid users of the program, it's a $20 one. They deliberately timed a cha-ching moment to coincide with V4's release.
