Poll question: If you've shopped at The Men's Warehouse, did you like the way you looked?
President George Zimmer is a big Dem donor.

1. I guarantee it!
I have to drive 2 1/2 hours to get to one now, but it is worth it. The only place for suits or jackets.

His employees speak well of him, and it seems genuine, rather than just "I am only kissing his ass because he is the founder".

You're going to like the way you look!

2. You're going to buy twenty suits when you went in for a tie!
Everytime I go in there--"no, I just want a single suit for my new job"--I come out with a fucking wardrobe. That blue shirt does match that striped tie.

Actually, Macy's sells pretty good stuff too at not too much.

3. I am big and tall
And jackets are hard to find in my size. I have NO luck at any of the big box stores like Macy's. I can get big and tall from Penney's, but only from their catalogue. Since I want to try things on to be sure, I rarely do mail order (shirts are a safe bet, but slacks - no way).

I am damn glad Men's Wearhouse can fit my sizes, so it's a bonus Zimmer is one of the good guys.

11. I've never had any luck there with tall sizes.
I need a 33-34 waist with a 36 inseam. I've never seen over a 34 inseam at MW. Have they added sizes recently?

12. I don't know
I am only a 32 inseam, but a 48 waist, and I wear a 54L jacket. Sounds like you have the one problem I don't, lol. Sucks being big at times. Size 13 dress shoes are a pain to find too.

19. Ask 'em what they can do for you
Not all stores carry all the same sizes. They can check inventory for the entire chain, find your size and have it Fed Exed to your local store - at no charge.

My experience is you can get really nice clothes at good prices and the sales people are really helpful and know what they are doing.

But be warned - you will buy more than you intend. I went in to get my Dad (very tall and extremely fat) a suede jacket. They had to get it from another store - and it looked great on him (which none of his other clothes do). But I came out with three really cool shirts I had no intention of buying - but I'm glad I did.

Those cheesy commercials, however, could really put you off from ever walking in the door.

Khash.

6. I have a Macy's nearby and they tend to have some great deals
Also Marshall's--sometimes--sells great suits and cheap prices. At least the one in Boston does.

Filene's often has great sales on suits.

8. If you're anywhere near the Boston area
just go to Filene's Basement. Don't bother if it's not the original, though. All the other Basements are worthless in comparison.

10. Filene's Basement?
Edited on Sat Apr-03-04 03:16 PM by NewHampshireDem
I thought they were all closed.

As for Gentlemen's Wearhouse ... I love it, and now that I know George is a dem, I don't feel so bad about how much money I've dropped there during the past year. If you live in New Hampshire, the one at the Mall of NH in ManchVegas is terrific, and their tailor, Gunther, is wonderful!

I've lost 40 pounds in the past year on the Atkins diet, and my two interview suits needed to be replaced. I brought in my two still like new too large suits and asked if they could be altered. After congratulating me on my wieght loss, Gunther said he could alter them, but then explained how much it would cost and why they wouldn't look right if he did. So I bought two new suits ... and Gunther altered both pairs of pants on the spot for FREE! I'll never shop anywhere else for suits.

14. The one in Boston
is not really part of the chain. It's its own entity. And it's certainly still there!

As for the chain, some of them closed, but not all. There's still one here in NY, for instance.

7. Yeah - their tuxes are good, but they don't carry a full dress tux,
and I need one. I suited my son up there, also, & he liked the way he looks. Nice place, good service, good merchandise, good prices.

13. they took the pleats out of the pants for me...
I didn't know you could do that. It's hard to find suits you like with plain front pants these days.

16. It's department store quality ...
Claiborne, Polo/Ralph Lauren, DK, Pronto Uomo. The stores have a wider selection than their website does, though they may be out of a particular jacket/slack. However, you'd probably be hard pressed to leave without finding something.

18. I just don't like pleats...
I think they are still considered in style by many.

"A style must look ugly to someone or else it's not a style." I don't know where I heard that but it goes with the corollary:

"A delicacy is a food that at least someone thinks is disgusting."

20. I bought a nice blue suit and braces from the one in Green Bay in 2001..
And I absolutley adore it!

I might just wear it to our 8th CD Convention on the 24th. If I go to State on June 11-12, I know I'll be wearing it. I may have to get it altered, though. I may need to find a nice tie and a shirt to go with it. I can always pick up a nice pair of Florshiems form JC Penney for about 45 bucks....

Damn... I know very little about fashion, I wish I could have Carson form Queer Eye give me some tips that I could use.

22. Good to know that George Zimmer is a big Dem donor.

My husband went there just last week for the first time, bought a new suit, new blazer -- and a pair of shoes he had no intention of buying! I'm glad he did, though. He's hard to fit, should have tried the place years ago. The clothes look good and he says the new shoes feel as good as they look, not something usually true of dress shoes, especially a new pair.

I guess I can vote "Yes" in the poll on his behalf.
