Samuel L. Jackson reads "Go the F*ck to Sleep." (Warning: strong language)
Edited on Wed Jun-15-11 01:33 AM by Heidi
From “Pulp Fiction” to bedtime stories?
Samuel L. Jackson, the actor probably best known for his performance as Jules, the menacing assassin of “Pulp Fiction,” has recorded the audiobook of “Go the ____ to Sleep,” the parody children’s book that reached No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list.

In a voice that alternates from gravelly to soothing, with tinkly lullaby music in the background, Mr. Jackson reads the book, which is written in the style of a children’s book but is meant for weary parents who don’t mind a lot of profanity.

“The windows are dark in the town, child,” he reads. “The whales huddle down in the deep. I’ll read you one very last book if you swear you’ll go the ____ to sleep.”

Mr. Jackson, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in “Pulp Fiction” and will play the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Broadway this fall in “The Mountaintop,” taped the 6-minute-20-second recording on Monday. The audiobook is currently available as free download on Audible.com.

2. My friends with children have my complete empathy.
I don't have children, either, but I do have a very highly demanding and indulged cat -- and I can only imagine how much more demanding a child could be. :scared:

3. Many spoiled children, think they are the parent.
What would recommend in that situation.

At some point they will have to learn.

There are billionaires that actually are so spoiled, they don't realize the money is not theirs.

And can't even figure out that I am due beer and travel money.

6. As I am not a parent, I avoid making parenting recommendations.
However, I have every confidence that you are, indeed, due beer and travel money (and many experiences). And I hope you get them.

7. That is nice of you to mention that.
It will work out eventually. Hopes for good journeys for you also.

8. And I thank _you_ for that, because
as much as I love my journeys, I hate (in many respects) to travel.

15. My oldest brother could have used this book when his kids were little.
Bedtime was always a big production, with someone always needing one more glass of water, or a trip to the bathroom, or one more story.

20. I noticed on a rightwing site today this title heralds the fall of civilization.
Seems a little harsh. It was a list of 14 end times items, so they probably needed a few silly ones.

21. If that little book is among the things predicted to cause the collapse of civilization,
those nut jobs leave a very small margin for error. (Unless it's their own error, then that's just fine.)

Mornin', dimbear! :hi:

22. As a therapist I thoroughly recommend this.
EVERYBODY has thought this at one time or another. Raising kids is HARD. You appreciate them, love them, never actually say this to them, but parents really, REALLY need this kind of humor to let them know that their desire to chuck that child out the window once in a while doesn't make them mean; it just means they're tired and at their wits' end.

This won't kill civilization. It might help save it to ba able to talk to one another about how hard it is and not abuse the kids instead.

And it's caring, charming, and Samuel L.'s delivery is brilliant.
