I just got back from Las Vegas....
This was my 5th trip there. I may never go again. I never thought THIS could happen to me:

The "free" Breakfast with Bugsy show is a scam! I got my "free" ticket to this show when I saw "VEGAS The Show" on Thursday, April 22 (which was a terrific show!). I went to the V Theatre for "free" breakfast the next morning (to save $ to throw away in the casinos), but it turned out to be a sales pitch for condos/timeshares that some group of thugs tried to force me to stay for--or pay 15 bucks for breakfast! I ran out of there as fast as I could and reported it to the Saxe Theater box office (where I saw WEGAS and got the "free" ticket). They had me fill out an incident report and offered me 1/2 off a ticket to another one of their shows (I declined the offer because I already had tix to shows elsewhere). That whole incident left a bitter taste in my mouth for the rest of my trip.

27. there's lots of freebies in vegas, that's why the scam is so effective
i don't take freebies from folks in jackets who i don't KNOW to be my host or casino marketing though, these days, that nicely dressed person in a jacket posing as a concierge etc. is quite likely to be one of these time share hustlers

really, the practice is completely predatory and ugly and unethical

the freebies are out there but how is the tourist to know what freebies are real??? vegas doesn't need these creeps creating illwill at such a time and such an economy

Requires a lot of gambling and a player's card.

4. So, you'd never heard of such a thing?
Odd. Vegas is full of that kind of stuff. Skip that free crap or read the ticket closely. The information about being presented with "opportunities" is always there, in the fine print. Vegas is a fun place, and you can enjoy many things, if you're paying attention. But legal scams are everywhere. Don't waste your time.

12. Never accept anything in Vegas that's "Free." Instead, go for what is "cheap."
IIRC, there were some really good $10 buffets when I was there, for example.

13. I didn't think you could go to any travel destination without
running into the timeshare hustlers.

There ain't so such thing as a free lunch - or breakfast as the case may be. You really should have expected that whoever was going to provide that "free" meal would expect something in return.

16. The old Mob was much better than the new Mob,
who are just big corporate players. The old guys would treat you right, buy you dinner, put Louis Prima on the stage.

Now it's just another Disneyland.

I just wish those thugs hadn't scared the shit out of me like they did. NO ONE deserves that!

On my four previous trips to Vegas I've NEVER fallen in a trap like this. NEVER. It never occurred to me I ever would.

BTW, I really resent the replies that start with "SO"!

23. I have a time-share a complete 2 story town house....its much more
Edited on Mon Apr-25-11 05:03 PM by Historic NY
valuable now. The time-share people hound us to sell it back. We just ignore them every year, they are persistent & we play them off against each other. I've had it appraised and they even want to give us another unit but we don't budge. We can accommodate 12 people comfortably with 2 kitchens, 4 baths, 4 bedrooms, sleeper sofas, fireplaces and even a hot tub. When we bought they could only sell the building as a single unit...We figure we are ahead of the game its paid for and we go there and party hardy.

22. Actual thugs?
I know they use massive peer pressure, but actual thugs? People that fell for the condo/timeshare things are hurting and the companies that sell them, even more so. We stopped going to Las Vegas years ago, it just got too greedy. I agree with the other posters, it was better when the mob ran it. These corporate assholes have no scruples. Sorry it ruined your vacation.

26. don't blame yourself for another's wrong doing
Edited on Wed Apr-27-11 01:36 PM by pitohui
the time share hustlers are everywhere now, even in front of the venetian and so on, if they would confine themselves to the places that
are really time shares anyway, it wouldn't be so bad

but you can't escape their hustle by staying in a "real" hotel, you should not blame yourself, you should put the blame where it belongs -- on the thugs who threatened you

i have to say i am truly sorry this happened to you

i usually just walk past them w.out saying anything but once in awhile, because they're out there on me every day, i break down and scream, do i look like a fucking tourist to you? am i dressed like a fucking tourist?

then i felt guilty for screaming but honestly, they're the criminals so i probably shouldn't, if somebody actually quits the time share hustle "job" because of my screaming, maybe i saved some naive older person from getting ripped off...

but don't let the hustlers take vegas away from you, it sounds like you handled yourself well, don't let this throw a shadow over your whole vacation

25. the time share hustlers are getting really bold
Edited on Tue Apr-26-11 08:21 PM by pitohui
i have to travel there regularly, and i get really fucking sick of their shit

no one in their right mind would buy a time share, their entire income comes from stealing from old people who are getting alzheimer's or other symptoms of age-related mental decline that harm their judgement -- if you can do even a little bit of first grade math, you can figure that a time share is a stupid-ass rip-off

it makes me sick, i'm civil to "regular" sales people, who are trying to sell something real and need to make a living like anyone else, but to sell a time share is just stealing, the maintenance fees alone are more than what you'd pay to in a nice hotel and they try to rob their victims for additional fees, upfront payments, etc.

time shares should be ruled illegal and anyone selling them put in jail for fraud against our elderly

there used to be MANY free offers and shows in vegas but now you can't look at anything anyone is handing you, it is probably a scam

only accept freebies thru your host or thru casino marketing, THOSE freebies/comps are still the real deal
