Do you know anyone who refers to other people by their ethnicity?
I mean not necessarily by their race, or by their religion, but by their nation of origin?

Like, "The Brit" or "The Dane" or "The Jew"

This seems kind of bigoted to me, but hey, maybe its just me.

1. no but I still know people who use "welsh" as in "welsh on a bet"
or 'he's a welsher." Derogatory as far as I am concerned.

6. As dumb as this sounds...
I bet some people don't know the etymology of the phrase or that there are actual Welsh peoples. And I'm certain that most couldn't tell you where Wales is or that it's an actual country.

Unless they're a smart Doctor Who fan. lol I'd love to visit Cardiff some day... B-)

7. I've been to Wales.
It's really a beautiful and very old country and I happened to see a protest, a large group of Welsh men carrying signs, marching for their independence from the British. I've been to Cardiff, but it's just a city. I was much more impressed with Llangollen, a really lovely area on a river, and the people were friendly, too. I'd love to return there. :)

2. I do.
Mostly, they are old. Older than me. They say things like, "the Dago," "The big, dumb Swede," or the "the spic."

I really can't stand it when I hear it. I have been known to call them on it, unless I overhear someone else's conversation that I am not part of.

3. Yes, exactly like that.
Sounds like my fathers generation. He would be 90 if he were still alive. But it jars me to hear it from someone in their fifties. And its not about blacks so its not typically racists, but it just sounds so weird to be distinguishing among Europeans when most of us are so many different things. I just can't believe anyone still thinks that way about people.

5. There's a guy at a bar I go to that everyone just calls "Greek",
I know I've heard what his first name actually is, but I can't recall it now.
