e-Cigarettes - just starting, love it, but have questions
I got my new e-cigarette, and I have had exactly 5 cigarettes in 4 days since I bought this. My question is how much is too much, and when to know when to change the cartridge. I thought a cartridge represented an entire pack, but I am finding it represents less than that.

I am REALLY enjoying the flavored ones, particularly menthol which I hate in real cigarettes. I love the chocolate flavored ones, too, but I seem to be burning through cartridges more quickly than anticipated. Am I doing something wrong, or did I just get an overly optimistic idea about what they are about? Frankly, I don't truly plan on giving up the e-cigarette now that I have found it, but I'm just confused with all of the hype.

In any case, I am smoking MUCH less, and I am delighted by that, as is my girlfriend.

Someone also mentioned liquids to replenish a cartridge - can anyone offer insight on that? I am shocked I like menthols - which were the first cigarettes I ever smoked - again out of this device. The chocolate was HEAVENLY.

Do you have to log in to AOL?

5. It apparently atomizes nicotine and liquids
It VERY closely resembles smoking without fire, tar and the other things that smoking causes. You still get doses of nicotine. I'm a pack a day smoker that has been able to cut down to 1 or 2 real cigarettes a day with this.

They have a USB powered battery charger. I just started using them myself, and they're pretty good. I think this may be the way to finally quit the cigs.

I'm just not sure of the economic factor yet. The health factor, however, is very real. I am smoking FAR less, and my lungs are clearing.

I wonder if it has less effect if one is in a humid climate than in an arid one, however. That's just mindless speculation, but I live in the most humid place on earth, and it's still working well for me.

4. Cartridges
Seem to last about 10-15 refills. I estimate each one is roughly a half of pack worth of nicotine. Thicker flavors such as choclate makes the cartridges last shorter than a light flavor such as lemon-lime.

I personally ditched them for clearomizers. Those last me a looong time but you have to inject the juice into the filter so it is harder to fill up. Be careful screwing them on or off as I broke a few filters from my first batch.

You have offered the most comprehensive answer of everyone on the board. I am interested in this "juice" I have seen others speak of. I LOVE the menthol cartridge I am trying. I got a starter kit and out them, the menthol and the chocolate have been my favorites.

20. If it is a two-piece
Meaning you have a stick and a filter and you just screw them together and inhale, I use these which I post on the bottom. I'm not familiar with "drip method" sticks but they do make clearomizers for those. 808D is what you want for two pieces.

http://www.madvapes.com/808D-CLEAROMIZER-28-30-OHM_p_28...

When it comes to these, I would just stick with light flavors for best results. But I used these with my strawberry shortcake flavors and it didn't break down. Light flavors just taste better I guess.

I also buy juices at madvapes, the trouble with that site is things may or may not be in-stock and with some items, it takes awhile for something to be in-stock. I noticed a lot of websites are like that.

Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 11:18 PM by JonLP24
the one I use is this. 808

http://www.freeimagehosting.net />

The white part is a battery and rather than the brown cartridge, I use a clearomizer which I screw onto the white stick and inhale. If it is anything more than that, I'm not familiar with it. You can buy clearomizers for other kits, I would go through the kits at madvapes and find the one that looks like yours. Get the model number for it and buy (if you want) a clearomizer that corresponds with that model. So if your kit is a 510, buy a 510 clearomizer. Hope that helps. :)

You pull the filter/cartridge off, screw in the atomizer, and then you have the white piece. I'm so very new at this so I'm confused about 2 piece and 3 piece. Mine has three pieces, but I sense there is more to the 'three piece ones'

41. Never had to screw in an atomizer
I would think with a white stick you could buy just about any 808 filter and screw it in and inhale but I wouldn't buy anything based on what I think. I'd say try to figure out exactly what brand you have so you can buy parts/filters that match up with it.

I'm really only familiar with one kind of set of e-cigarettes. Never was interested in "drip" (though it doesn't seem like you have "drip" either) because it seemed complicated and from reading e-cig forums, a lot of "drippers" use my kind of brands on-the-go. I guess it isn't easy to drip while you are you're out and about.

12. "Overly optimistic idea about" that brand/design.
If you have a blu brand e-cig, you are not alone in your disappointment. They're very lame, but have effective marketing.

You'll be much happier with a Riva ego starter kit. <-- search that and watch a few video reviews on youtube.

Get your juice from a place like:

27. You're welcome. South Beach Smoke is similar design as blu.
Their main goal is to look as much as possible like "analog" cigarettes.
Battery strength and life are quite low, and they produce minimal vapor as compared to designs based on vaping pleasure. ;)

Go with a Riva/eGo or Volcano Inferno and buy your own juice, and I bet you'll find it easier to quit smoking.

15. Congrats on moving to E-cigs
Edited on Wed Apr-06-11 10:53 PM by NavyDem
That being said, I do not prefer catridges over the dripping method. A normal cartridge would probably be about 1/2 a pack at best. I went from being a two pack a day smoker to using an e-cig myself. For me, dripping is my method of choice, where you drip the e-juice directly into the atomizer. 3 drops is about equal to a cigarette.

I use a Volcano Inferno as a personal vaporizer, and get my e-juice from strictly e-juice.

I prefer the tobacco and 555 flavors, but there are a multitude of differnt flavors available.

Volcano: http://www.volcanoecigs.com
Strictly E-Juice: http://strictlyejuice.com

Edit: mispelling in title.

31. No problem
The inferno is similar to the ego that someone else mentioned. It's a Joye 510 based system, so should be compatible with joye low resistance atomizers, cartomizers, and clearomizers. I get my juice from strictly e-juice because they are close to me (they are out of Los Angeles, I live in San Diego), and their prices seem to be about half of what most of the e-juice places charge (9.95 per 30ML bottle, or 2 weeks worth of vaping per bottle for me).

The one thing I would add, is that you should shop around, and find what works best for you. I started with the Blu, which was OK, but too much of a hassle at times. I moved to the inferno cause I like to vape like I liked to smoke. Heavily. With the inferno, I can vape all day on a single battery charge, and with a drip tip installed, it's 3 drips per smoke.

The cartomizer and clearomizers are also good, but I found that the clearomizer can be fragile. I also tend to burn through them when I try to clean them so I don't feel as if I get my moneys worth.

26. Here's some links:
https://www.cignot.com/category_s/24.htm

http://www.thevaporpro.com/eliquid-smoke-juice/tobacco-...

Just check out their juice links at the sites.

Also...just Google E cigarette E juice. You can buy any flavor you want. Fruit, brand label cigarette, cigar, menthol, etc. For the cartridges, you can refill with a syringe or a small eye dropper.

What I have read (I don't have one of these), a cartridge will last 1/2-1 day (depends on how heavy a smoker you are/were) and a bottle of 10 ml juice should last a week. That's saving a TON of $$$$$$. 10 ml bottles are cheap. It may be more economical to buy the 30 ml bottles though...check those out too. You should have an instruction booklet that came with the ecig that tells you how to drip the juice and where.

42. If you try anything that is Joye 510 based
such as the eGo or Inferno, you'll have a much happier vape. On the other hand, you'll also vape more LOL. Shop around though, prices can vary a great deal. I got my inferno for 59.95, but some kits can be much more expensive. Even with the startup cost, I saved money in the first month of vaping over what I was spending on smoking.

50. I like chocolate too, it's all I use. The best cartomizers by far are Bloogs.
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 12:10 AM by Waiting For Everyman
They're new, and they cost more. BUT. The price drops the more you buy, which is different from most sellers. A 20% off sale just ended at midnight unfortunately. They draw better, for longer, and they refill more times before needing to be tossed, and they hold more liquid when refilled - they're more absorbent.

The clearomizers are cool but they are hard to refill. I'd think about that down the road, maybe, after getting used to refilling a "normal" cartomizer.

My source for e-liquid is www.vapor4life.com There are lots of sales run every week or two if you get on their email notification, so those are much better prices than you see on the site.

I get a 30ml bottle of 36mg chocolate juice, and make 5 bottles of 6mg liquid out of it by diluting it (any proportion would work - for 18mg, cut by half for instance). I use Capella flavor drops for the chocolate flavoring, and they also sell VG and PG. A few drops of "Cotton Candy" flavor can be used to sweeten it, or any liquid concentrated sweetener, or I've even used a pack of Stevia in it well-shaken and it worked.

I'd start out buying the liquid in the strength you want at first, and when you're comfortable doing it, read the ECF forum mentioned above on "DIY". At least you know that there's a way to cut the cost when you want to get into it.

No matter what people tell you though about difficulties with DIY chocolate, Capella's chocolate flavoring works very well in Bloog cartomizers, and I can tell you that for a fact because I use it every day.

Hurray for another new vaper!!! :bounce:

p.s. If you'd like a rowdier forum, but with equally good advice/knowledge, there's also VapersForum. Several are good. I'd also look at the how-to vids on YouTube by GrimmGreen and Leaford for starters. There again, others are good too.

As to your original question: when it tastes dry or slightly harsh, it's time to change cartridges or refill it. You'll learn to tell when it's "running low" before you get to that point. How long they last depends of the manufacturer more than anything. They vary a lot.

I see that you're using a 3-piece, I strongly prefer the 2-piece (a KR808D-1 type). The atomizer is built-in, and tossed with the cartomizer, there's no need to replace and pay for separate atomizers. Of the 808 models, the XL (extra long or "mega") ones are good (both manual and automatic), as is the Bloog Maxx Fusion, and the GreenWorld G400. On all of those, I'd use the Bloog cartomizers. 808 cartos fit on any 808-type (2-piece) battery. The threads are compatible, which is another nice thing. That means also that the chargers usually work on any 808.

Wait - they make 36mg juice? I bought the strongest I could find at 25mg. I'm a soon to be ex Marlboro Red smoker.

I didn't realize you could get it that good :). Forgive my foul language, but Fuck Smoking if I can get a decent smoke like that.

57. And if you can get a nicotine fix in a few puffs...
You can work your way down the strengths of juice too....down to zero. It's like the nicotine gum that comes in different strengths. You start strong and go down. Just google 36mg juice. There's 36, 25, 18, on down to zero. :) I ordered the Marlboro Red 25 mg.

58. I'm a Marlboro Reds smoker
I have been for 20 years. It is kind of scary now that I face up to that fact, but I am starting to feel the effects. I "only" smoke a pack a day, but damn, I really do enjoy every one of those smokes. I am probably one of those that needs the higher dose to scale back, but then again, I am deeply enjoying a few of the ones I got in the kit.

We'll see. I really don't see myself reverting.

51. Okay - here's the thing
It's awesome the first time or two I take a puff. How many puffs should I be taking before it is time to replace it?

I'm still learning about it, and this is completely changing my cigarette habit that I knew so well.

53. When you get no more vapor, replace/refill the cart.
Clean out the atomizer once every now and then as well.

55. Thank you!
That's kind of the answer I was looking for! No vapor = change cartridge. I know I might be kind of block-headed at times and need specifics, and thank you for supplying them.

60. Contgrats!
I went from a pack a day to e-cigs almost a year ago, and I now consider myself as close to having quit as I want to be :)

By which I mean that I'll pick up a pack if I'm going out to a bar...which is maybe once a month. I've cut out 99% of my smoking, and I'm pretty damn happy with that.

I used White Cloud. They're a more expensive brand that what's been mentioned above, I have to admit; but the flavors were great, the draw was VERY smooth, and the cartridge and battery life were both excellent. Other than that brand recommendation, I think the folks above have covered the details pretty well so I don't have much to add :)

I smoked the e-cig regularly for about three months, then it cut down to just once in a while, then one day I noticed I hadn't touched the thing in a couple weeks...and now it sits on my desk in it's little case, all covered in dust, and that makes me smile when I see it.

I'm stoked for you- this is an awesome choice. Well done.

:toast:
