2. it is disgusting
I could not take more than a minute of it.

These are factory farms, not what farming used to be . Yes they should be banned.

But the corporations rule the day for now.

5. $50 for a pound of ground chuck
sound like a reality that is more appealing than farming animals for their flesh?

7. Tons of protien
in nuts beans and other things. Healthier for humans and the planet, but yes I eat meat too. We were all raised that way.

That does not necessarily make it the only way to do things.

24. We're raised that way
because we evolved that way. It is not feasible to provide sufficient B12 to the entire planet without using animals on an industrial scale.

25. $50/lb? Oh... you must mean what the smaller operations charge for their "work-intensive" meat.

26. It stands to reason that their prices are stable
because of the competition provided by meat produced in larger industrial operations. Were that supply to cease to exist, the overall supply would be dramatically smaller and demand to the "work-intensive" meat would like wise skyrocket along with its price.

27. But if they can produce meat at a reasonable profit at relatively reaonable prices...
.
.
.
...what would stop the expansion of MANY smaller operations doing the same thing
as opposed to the farm factories whose sole purpose and focus seems to be on
maximizing profits? With the demise of the farm factories, would there be no
opportunities like this?
.
And couldn't the farm factories provide more humane processes at a cost that
would STILL be less than the smaller operations charge now? (There's that pesky
"maximization of profit" rearing its ugly head again.)
.
.
.
The increases in cost would probably do a lot more towards decreasing our
dependence on and consumption of meat than ANY animal rights campaign ever could.
.
.
.
Win/win.
.
.
.
Except, of course, for the greediest of "shareholders", IMneverHO.
.
.

This comes from an ardent omnivore.

I don't think it has the intended effect (at least on my mind).

Thanks for that tip!

On top of no more of the ugly greenish-reddish, anti-meat, pro-vegan ad ... the page is less cluttered and easier to look at.

you can then disable or uninstall (you need to restart Firefox).

Which one did you use? NoScript or AdBlock Plus? If using NoScript, you have to allow certain scripts for some sites to work (see lower right-hand corner-- the 'S').

20. I went to help
restart with add ons disabled.

Seemed to fix it.

I'm pretty good with computers but it was blocking shit I did not want blocked without an explaination or options.

Will try again when I have more time perhaps.

I actually installed ad block & no script, perhaps that was my problem?

6. Factory Farming
My wife became a vegetarian when she was 14 because she learned about the horror of factory farming. Almost 40 years ago.

I am a hypocrite. I like meat, but want to know nothing about where it comes from. I don't eat veal and other stuff where the animals are profoundly tortured, but I am part of the problem.

She does eat fish, though.

13. Makes me hungry for steak. I love meat.
The Vegan propagandists will NEVER win as long as humans are endowed with canines and incisors.

You have to kill to get meat. Fact of life. Just deal with it.

14. Read "Omnivores' Dilemma"
Even if you like and want to eat meat, we need to look at what goes on in this industry.

Do you want to get meat from the type of operations described in this book? That's a choice meat eaters can make.

19. Great book!
We are children of the corn!

That lovely marbling people look for that ads so much flavor is a sign of a very sick cow. We should not be eating sick cows. It's not all that difficult to find organic grass fed beef that comes from contented cows who spent their life grazing as designed. The taste is different, but you can get used to it and ultimately prefer it.

21. yes
meat eaters need to get a handle on their sources.

Too simplistic to make this about meat eaters vs vegetarians. These are basic health issues--of people, animals, the environment--affecting us all. It's also very cruel to animals. You can be a meat eater and still be against that kind of suffering.

18. I only read thread titles in forum view...
So simple to avoid those ads.

It's also simple to avoid the constant whining about said ads... I hide those threads... including this one once I hit post message. Quite frankly I find these threads more annoying than the thing they whine about. Colossal waste of time.
